Then you can't tell me who or what I should be
Just 'cause it's right for you don't mean that it's right for me
Hey, this is my life, so I can only be me
Who are you to judge me?
You don't see things like I see
'Cause I'm not you and you ain't me
Who are you to judge me?
You don't see things like I see
'Cause I'm not you and you ain't me
Yes, God loves you but He loves me too
Now you don't even know, down which road in life you'll go
So you know what's best for me, now how could that be?
What songs do bluebirds sing? What will tomorrow bring?
Where did we come from and when we die, where do we go?
Who are you to judge me?
You don't see things like I see
'Cause I'm not you and you ain't me
God loves me, He loves me just for me
Who are you to judge me?
You don't see things like I see
'Cause I'm not you and you ain't me
Yes, God loves you but He loves me too
You see that girl on the streets
She sells her body, it's all she knows
And that old man, he's so weak
He lost his family and gave up long ago
Don't shun them in disbelief
He could be you, she could be me
Love and understanding is all we need
That's all we need
Who are you to judge me?
You don't see things like I see
'Cause I'm not you and you ain't me
God loves me, He loves me just for me
Who are you to judge me?
You don't see things like I see
'Cause I'm not you and you ain't me
Yes, God loves you but He loves me too
Who are you to judge me?
You don't see things like I see
'Cause I'm not you and you ain't me
God loves me, He loves me just for me
In "God Loves Me," Lina advocates for individuality and self-expression, criticizing those who try to force their views upon others. She argues that nobody has the right to judge another person because everyone has their own unique experiences and perspectives. She reinforces this message with the chorus, which emphasizes that God loves her for who she is, and that the same is true for everyone else. The final verse emphasizes the importance of empathy and understanding toward others, highlighting that everyone has a different story and deserves love and compassion.
Throughout the song, Lina uses rhetorical questions to challenge the listener's assumptions and highlight the complexity of life. The first verse, for instance, asks why the stars don't fall out of the sky, pointing out that there are many mysteries in the world that nobody can fully explain. This serves as a metaphor for human existence, which is full of unanswerable questions and uncertainty. By acknowledging this, Lina encourages the listener to be more open-minded and understanding toward others.
Overall, "God Loves Me" is a powerful statement about the value of individuality, empathy, and self-expression. Through her lyrics, Lina argues that everyone is unique and valuable, and that we should all be more accepting and compassionate toward one another.
