Lina and her quintet received the prestigious Swedish Grammis award for her CD "when the smile shines through" in 1995. "OPEN" released in 1998 and recorded with Palle Danielsson and Anders Persson, among others, was nominated for a Swedish Grammis and received rave reviews.
Over the years Lina Nyberg has collaborated with jazz musicians such as John Taylor, Dr. Dingo, Esbjorn Svensson, Anders Jormin, Rigmor Gustafsson, and Jeanette Lindstrom. She has toured in Scandinavia, parts of Europe, Canada and Brazil. In 1999 Lina toured Japan with Yasuhito Moris Scandinavian Connection. The fall of 2001 welcomed the release of the CD "Brasilien" a collaboration with bassist Anders Jormin and a result of Lina's longtime love of Brazilian music. In 2002 Lina Nyberg was awarded the Swedish National Jazz Association's prize of distinction, "Jazzkannan," with the following motivation: "Lina Nyberg is a courageous and mature musician. She explores and develops the tradition at her own pace and according to her own senses. Lina is an exciting and determined singer and instrumentalist. Her material is in constant transformation, and her openness in working with creative musicians is a testament to Lina's desire in exploring new directions.
Lina Nyberg is one of Sweden's most creative and interesting jazz singers. For over 10 years she has been attracting consistent and widespread attention in Sweden. In April of 2003 her groundbreaking CD "Time" was released, with Lina's own compositions performed by her exciting new band: Mathias Landaeus on fender Rhodes, piano, and live-electronics, Torbjorn Zetterberg on electric bass, and Sebastian Notini on drums. This CD contains influences from Brazilian music with the main focus nevertheless on progressive Nordic jazz: "Twelve songs, one for every month. Lina Nyberg sings like twelve angels; both her songs and her voice change shape…among the most beautiful and, with modesty, most dramatic I have heard for a very, very long time, regardless of the instrument" Ingmar Glanzelius, Dagens Nyheter
Lina's CD "A song book" was recorded in January of 2003, with pianist Anders Persson and bassist Yasuhito Mori. It was first released in Japan where it was received with much enthusiasm. The CD was later released in Sweden, in May of 2004: "...it is without a doubt Lina Nyberg's best, and possibly the most outstanding Swedish vocal jazz recording since the height of Monica Zetterlund's time. All is as clear as a bell, refined, scaled down, subtle." Sven Malm, Svenska Dagbladet
Lina's latest CD "Saragasso" with the same band as on her CD "Time" has attracted much attention since its release in September of 2004: "…expression with great precision - and great personality." Dagens Nyheter "It's good. Very good. And there is a relaxed desire for discovery that fascinates" Goteborgs Posten "Lina Nyberg's sensitive and articulated way of singing gives emphasis to the content. As a whole it is intelligent and well thought-out, with various musical origins…" Svenska Dagbladet "Nothing characterized as jazz today is more contemporary than this. Saragasso should be high on the sales charts." La Musik
Lina Nyberg has 10 CD's as a leader: "Close" (with pianist Esbjorn Svensson, '93) "when the smile shines through" (with quintet Per "Texas" Johansson, saxophone, Esbjorn Svensson, piano, Dan Berglund, bass, and Mikel Ulfberg, drums '94) "So many stars" (with big band and strings, '96) "Temper" (with pianist Jacob Karlzon, '97) "OPEN" (with Lina Nyberg Bang, '98) "Smile" (with pianist Anders Persson and bassist Palle Danielsson, '00) "Brasilien" (in collaboration with bassist Anders Jormin, '01) "Time" (with Mathias Landaeus, piano, Torbjorn Zetterberg, bass, and Sebastian Notini, drums, '03) "A song book" (with pianist Anders Persson and bassist Yasuhito Mori, '03) "Saragasso" (with Mathias Landaeus, piano, Torbjorn Zetterberg, bass, and Sebastian Notini, drums, '04)
All The Way

It's no good unless he loves you, all the way
Happy to be near you
When you need someone to cheer you, all the way
Taller than the tallest tree is
That's how it's got to feel
Deeper than the deep blue see is
When somebody needs you
It's no good unless he needs you, all the way
Through the good or lean years
And for all the in between years, come what may
Who know where the road will lead us
Only a fool would say
But if you'll let me love you
It's for sure I'm gonna love you, all the way
All the way
In Lina Nyberg's song 'All the Way', she sings about a love that is all-encompassing and all-consuming. She starts off by saying that when somebody loves you, it's not enough for them to love you halfway - they have to love you 'all the way'. She goes on to say that it's not enough for them to simply be happy to be near you, they also have to be there for you when you need cheering up.
The second verse talks about how deep this love has to be - it has to be taller than the tallest tree and deeper than the deepest sea. This line emphasizes just how intense this kind of love has to be. In the third verse, she explains that when somebody needs you, they need to need you all the way, no matter the circumstances. The last verse talks about how uncertain the future may be, but if that person allows Lina to love them, then she will love them all the way.
Overall, Lina Nyberg's 'All the Way' is a song about a love that is deep, all-encompassing and cannot be half-hearted. It's a love that requires commitment, dedication and faithfulness, no matter what life may throw at them.
