* Just some quick history here:
Doo Wop??? There was no such thing as Doo Wop then. The term was coined by a disc jockey in the 1970's. (I think that was in 1973 from a D.J. in Pittsburgh, as recalled by Little Anthony). Doo Wop was mainly applied, at the time, to Italian Groups who's background singers sang doo wop doo wop, doo wop, and similar things behind their lead singer.
* In the 40's & 50's there was also serious Jazz
Musicians, Be-Bop, Big Band, Swing, and Jazz Vocalists (a.k.a. Torch Singers) where some "serious stylists" came out of, such as my husband Jimmy Scott, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, etc... Then there were some Novelty acts and so on...
ALL of which contributed to making some great music thru the decades.
* In the late 1940's & early 1950's there was Louie Jordan's Jump Blues, Down Home Blues Singers, and
"R&B" (Rhythm & Blues) with Singers such as Little Richard, Chuck Berry, & Bo Diddley. All of these artists music had a baby and gave birth to the term Rock & Roll Music. Ironically, Disc Jockey Alan Freed coined the term "Rock and Roll" (which also has another meaning, lol...) loved and mainly played records by black R&B Artists on his radio show.
* Deep soulful singers were singing early on what was called Race Music (1940's), in the 1950's "Street Corner Harmony" (especially the "groups" harmonizing, or singing what was called "Blow Harmony" as sung by The Moonglows and Pookie Hudson & The Spaniels. Also mainly "R&B"(Rhythm & Blues, that is the way most black singers referred to their music as.) Just ask Little Anthony Gourdine who was THERE creating the music in the1950's & 60's. Ask any of the black singers from back then who are still around today. In the 1960's thru early 1970's they called themselves singers of R&B or Soul Music (R&B and Soul Artists), as well as the pretty love songs referred to as Sweet Soul Music. I travelled the Chitlin` Circuit back then. In the1960's soul era, the music was R&B or Soul. Overall, Gospel Music was a big influence too!!
In the 1950's it was mainly group harmony that was "the thing".
This was longer than I intended..........
* Getting back to Linda Jones, she was spiritual, an experience of life's pain. Linda was deep as deep can get, a serious song stylist who sang from the depths of her soul. She was authentic, singer of truths. The deepest and most genuine of the female soul singers of the era. She made you feel her pain and tore your heart out. Linda was remarkable. Sadly, we lost the deepest of all female soul singers way too young. Her plaintive, haunting voice will always stay with us. Thank you Linda, for the gifts you gave. R.I.H.P. 🙏

RIP Linda Jones (December 14, 1944 – March 14, 1972), aged 27
You will always be remembered as a legend.

@dwaynefrazier8248

It's a shame she died at age 27. She was a very underrated singer.

@chriscole4094

That's so sad. I didn't realise she was so young. Do you know the cause of death?

@geminilove8323

@@chriscole4094she was a diabetic. She went to take a nap at her moms house in between shows and her mom went to wake her and discovered she slipped into a diabetic coma and she passed away the next day.

@chriscole4094

Thanks for the info. So young 27. She definitely would have gone on to bigger and better things.

@amar1254

She is a Lengend in my neck of the woods.

@weotalks2810

Cordae is an old soul for sure!

@aaronmurray7155

Cordae cold

@edwardwheeler197

Why is nobody talking about her beautiful mixture of Soul and Doo-Wop? This is what makes her sound swing the way it does. She is absolutely GLORIOUS.

I am an Aretha Franklin fan to the death of me but Ms. Linda is someone I adore very much. Soulful delivery coupled with doo-wop melisma and swing.

I love what you brought to music Linda
