Dolphin
Linda Perhacs Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But I am bound by the tin
That's under my feet
And the engine behind
If I held you for a tow
Would you take me there and back
But what is there
And what good is back?
Dolphin, take me with you
I want to feel the speed
And the pulse of moving
Of going away
But where shall we go
Does it matter, should I know
When the reason is to taste
Vacillando
The song "Dolphin" by Linda Perhacs speaks of the desire to escape from the mundane and routine aspects of life and explore the unknown. The singer of the song approaches a dolphin and asks to be taken on a journey with the creature, but recognizes her limitations. She is bound by the constraints of her society and technology, symbolized by the "tin" under her feet and the "engine" behind her. The uncertainty of where the journey will take her is acknowledged, but the desire for adventure and freedom outweighs any reservations.
Throughout the song, there is an underlying theme of longing for a deeper connection with nature and the mystical. The singer recognizes the beauty and allure of the dolphin and understands that it possesses something beyond human comprehension. The idea of "tasting vacillando" suggests a spiritual awakening or revelation that can only be achieved through immersion in the unknown and uncertain.
Overall, "Dolphin" is a lyrical representation of the human desire to explore and connect with something beyond the materialistic world we live in. It invites the listener to reflect on their own limitations and boundaries, and to consider breaking free from them.
