Heartbeats Accelerating
Linda Ronstadt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love, love, where can you be?
Are you out there looking for me?
Love, love, where can you be?
Love, I am waiting
Heartbeat's accelerating

Will you come along the still?
From the river, o'er the hill?
Love, love, where can you be?
Love, I am waiting
Heartbeats accelerating

Will you come on a Saturday night?
Maybe then the time will be right
Love, love, where can you be?
Love, I am waiting
Heartbeat's accelerating

When you steal into my room
What earthly body will you assume?
Love, love where can you be?
Love, I am waiting
Heartbeat's accelerating

Will you come on a Saturday night?
Maybe then the time will be right
Love, love, where can you be?
Love, I am waiting
Heartbeat's accelerating

Love, love, where can you be?
Are you out there looking for me?
Love, love, where can you be?
Are you out there looking for me?
Love, I am waiting
Heartbeat's accelerating

Love, I am waiting
Heartbeat's accelerating

Overall Meaning

"Heartbeats Accelerating" is a song by Linda Ronstadt which reflects on the emotions of a woman who is constantly searching to find love. The lyrics begin with an unanswered question 'Love, love where can you be?' indicating the desperation and uncertainty of love that consumes her. The repetition of the question also implies the constant search for the right person. She is hoping for a miracle; she is hoping that love will find her on its own, without her having to actively look for it.

The song speaks of the anticipation of a woman waiting for her true love. When she wonders 'Will you come along the still? From the river, o'er the hill?' it conveys the hope of meeting her love when she is least expecting it. She is curious about the form he will take and wonders about the time and place they might meet. The repeated phrase 'Heartbeats accelerating' captures the exciting, thrilling feeling of falling in love.

The mention of 'Saturday night' reminds the listener that it's not just enough to meet someone; the timing must also be right. The song emphasizes that love is a game of chance and timing. The lyrics are honest and raw, beautifully capturing the essence of love and longing.

Her most underrated song. This is one of her greatest songs but people don't talk about it.

My late Grandpa's favorite song

This song is such a showcase for her amazing ability to project her voice in vastly different ways. I remember seeing an interview with her when the song was released where she talked about how inspired she was to record the song for that very reason. I so love her and was deeply saddened upon learning about how Parkinson's had left her unable to sing. Thank God for the fact that she had such a large body of work that will live on forever. Linda Ronstadt you are truly immortal ❤️❤️

I was fortunate to see her once live in concert....unfortunately by that time the pipes had started to fade....but it was still a thrill to see someone who has brought me so much pleasure over decades since my teens....I never grow tired listening to that magnificent voice, whatever genre she happens to be singing.....

This song is one of the greatest of all time....incredible

Ain't that the truth ;)

An overlooked Gem from Ronstadt's later canon. Love that voice no matter where she took it.

This was one of my absolute favorite songs back when i was a kid, and probably the only song i remember loving as a child. Bare in mind, i'll be 43 this month, so it's a fair few years. Only actually found out the title of the song and who sung it a few years ago thanks to my best friend with a little help from google. So glad i did. An absolutely beautiful song that somehow takes me right back to when i first heard it. Thank you Linda Ronstadt.
