On No Not My Baby
Linda Ronstadt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When my friends told me you had someone new,
I didn't believe a single word was true.
I told them all I had faith in you.
I kept right on sayin':
Oh, no, not my baby.
Oh, no, not my sweet baby.
You're not like all those other girls
Who play with man's hearts like they were toys.

My mama told me, "Son,when rumors spread
That there is truth somewhere
And you should use your head."
But I sure didn't listen to what she said;
Don't you know I kept right on sayin':
Oh, no, not my baby.
Oh, no, not my sweet baby.
You're not like all those other girls
Who lead you on and tell you lies, no, not my baby.

Tell me, baby,
I don't believe what they're sayin', no.
Oh, no, not my baby.
Oh no, not my sweet baby.
Oh, no, not my baby.
Oh no, not my sweet baby.

Not my baby, not my baby
Not my baby, not my baby, not my baby
Not my, not my sweet, sweet baby.
Not my baby, not my baby
Not my baby, not my baby, not my baby
Not my, not my sweet, sweet baby.

Not my baby, not my baby,
Not my baby, not my sweet, sweet baby.
Oh, no, not my baby.

Oh no, not my sweet baby.
Oh, no, not my baby.

This girl shakes me to my core. There isn't enough words in my vocabulary to explain her value in my ears--or the millions whom she has given pleasure to. I would have to place her in the top five musical voices in pop history; that's the most accurate way to describe Linda Ronstadt's place! Obviously this is a fantastic song delivered by an iconic singer.

Tricky Dicky Ball

Linda's rendition of the aforementioned ballad is the best, by far. A very underrated artist, who should be a recipient of a lifetime achievement award and rockin' roll HOF status.

CORRECTION icing on.the cake by the way Dee Dee did the original version of you're no good I prefer Linda's version but I also love what Dee Dee did with this song it's raw and funky check it out

I adore Linda she's one of my favorite singers and she nailed it once again with this song however I prefer the version by Maxine Brown the backround vocal by Dee Dee Warwick is.thf icing on the cake for me Linda's version is great but is a little overproduced

Eddie Pardovani

A singer who, by the way, makes today's pop divas look like a joke. Anyone who doubts this can pick any Linda Ronstadt album and listen to it; they'll come back echoing my words.

@Diana Academia Screaming, too. You forgot screaming. I was just thinking about the last few seasons of American Idol. The "judges" laud them from day one as being so phenomenal. Oh, please.

Diana Academia

Their music today is noise for e... yelling isn't music... barking isn't either, Ms. Linda has unique voice .. a heavenly one...

boopkid

This is a gem written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin. Originally recorded by Maxine Brown in 1964, Linda's version is very faithful to the original and equally shines.

catchmeifyucan1

pure, clean, soaring vocals as only Linda can deliver. THE BEST version

Amazing. I bought this CD almost 30 years ago and just found it in a moving box, not hearing it for at least 20 years. Had NO idea why I bought it. Probably because of this song. It is really sad how underrated and (never played on radio) these songs are. Glad I found it.
