Ain't No Way
Lindley David Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sittin' at the laundry-mat
Trying to keep clean
Twenty five women arrive on the scene
Ain't no way, baby
Ain't no way, baby
Ain't no way, baby
Ain't no way you're gonna get to me
Down in the south land
Down among the twisted vines
You ought to see my baby
Shootin' up the freeway signs
Ain't no way, baby
Ain't no way you get to me
Ain't no way, baby
Ain't no way you're gonna get to me

Goin' to the welfare
Standin' in line
The woman at the window
She won't give me a dime
Ain't no way, baby
Ain't no way you get to me
Ain't no way, baby
Ain't no way you're gonna get to me

Ain't no way, baby
Ain't no way you get to me

Ain't no way, baby
Ain't no way you're gonna get to me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lindley David's song Ain't No Way express the singer's frustration as they attempt to keep their life in order amidst everyday struggles. The first verse sees the artist sitting at a laundry mat, trying to keep clean when a multitude of women arrive. The repetition of "Ain't no way, baby" throughout the song suggests that the singer feels overwhelmed and that there is no real solution to their predicament. This sentiment is reinforced by the singer's mention of their lover who shoots up the freeway signs, indicating a sense of desperation and entrapment. In the final verse, the singer's frustration continues as they go to the welfare office and are met with no help from the woman behind the window. Ultimately, the lyrics of the song highlight the relentlessness of everyday struggles and the feeling of being trapped in one's circumstances with little hope for a brighter future.

One interesting fact about Ain't No Way is that it is not an original song by Lindley David. The song was originally written by American songwriter and producer Carolyn Franklin in 1968, and it was famously performed by her sister, soul singer Aretha Franklin. Another interesting fact is that Lindley David is not the only artist to have covered the song. In fact, it has been covered by a number of artists, including Mary J. Blige and Whitney Houston. Additionally, the song received renewed popularity in recent years after being featured in the television show "Big Little Lies."

In terms of chords, Ain't No Way is typically played in the key of G Major with a 4/4 time signature. The chords used in the song are G, C, D, and Em, with the verses mostly consisting of a G to C chord progression and the chorus using the D and Em chords.

In summary, the lyrics of Lindley David's Ain't No Way speak to the everyday struggles and frustrations of life, highlighting feelings of entrapment and hopelessness. The song has been covered by multiple artists and is played in the key of G Major with a G, C, D, and Em chord progression.

If you're going to post a song, please credit the songwriter, which in this case was Bob "Frizz" Fuller, a Vietnam vet who also wrote "Quarter of a Man" "and "She Took Off My Romeos" on the same LP. I once asked Lindley what Romeos were - he said those red-and-black plaid slippers, which in his mind had some mystical Hugh-Hefner quality. Lindley also recorded Fuller's Tiki Torches at Twilight" on his 1998 LP Very Greasy.

My cousin Mitch bought the cassette when it first came out. We played it at a party one night and someone stole it. We bought the cassette 6 more times that summer. By the end of summer everyone was jamming to David Lindley. I miss those days and nights.
