Countdown
Lindsey Buckingham Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm waiting on the countdown
Sitting in the shade
Things about to turn around
How the madness fades
Oh, I've been waiting on the countdown
Things about to turn around
And now I'm out of the lost and found
Just waiting on the countdown
Time slips away
Oh, this feeling lingers
Right here I'm going to stay
I've been waiting on the countdown
Things about to turn around
And now I'm out of the lost and found
Just waiting on the countdown
So I'm sitting in the shade
Under the dreaming tree
Now the madness fades
Right here I'm going to be
Oh, I've been waiting on the countdown
Things about to turn around

And now I'm out of the lost and found
Just waiting on the countdown

Overall Meaning

In Lindsey Buckingham's song Countdown, the lyrics reflect a sense of anticipation and hope. The singer is waiting for a countdown, with the belief that things are about to turn around, and the "madness" will fade away. The image of the singer sitting in the shade, under a dreaming tree, creates a contemplative and hopeful mood. The line "time slips away" suggests that the singer is reflecting on the past, and how these moments have led up to this moment of waiting for change. Despite the uncertainty of what is to come, they choose to stay in this moment, where they feel safe and hopeful.

The repetition of "I've been waiting on the countdown" emphasizes the eagerness for change and the belief that it will come soon. The line "Now I'm out of the lost and found" suggests that the singer has found a sense of direction or purpose, and is no longer lost, waiting for something to guide them.

Overall, the song Countdown is a reflection on the hope, anticipation, and uncertainty that comes with waiting for change. The singer finds comfort in the present, where they can sit and reflect on their journey and wait for what is to come.

I do have this song on CD, but wasn't actually able to find it in my collection (must have bought it somewhen in the early 90's if I'm not wrong ...); Lindsey and this song came to my mind when I accidentally heared "Trouble" on the Radio today, while driving in my car. Was nice "meeting" him here on YT later on, after quite a long time .... 😊.
