Founded in November 2011, Linea Aspera were influenced by electronic bands from the 1980s. A reviewer reporting on a gig in January 2012 noted that their music sounded "very 80s", and that they had "sprung fully-formed" from the musical underground of East London. That month self-releasing an extended play cassette, titled Linea Aspera EP, it was described by the Burning Flame website as number one in their Top 20 EPs of 2012.
Signing to Dark Entries Records, the band's first album, Linea Aspera LP, was released on 25 September 2012. Brought out digitally and on vinyl by Dark Entries, a CD release was produced by the German company Genetic Records. Each LP was contained in a jacket sleeve designed by Dovile Shurpo and accompanied by an insert listing their song lyrics.

Linea Aspera Lyrics

What am I doing?
Why are you here?
What do you want from me?
What am I doing?
Why are you here?
What do you want from me?
Don't you dare, you shouldn't have come here.
shouldn't have come here.
Don't you dare,
Don't you dare, you should never have come here.
never have come here.
What am I doing?
Why are you here?
What do you want from me?
My place is a mess and you can't stay,
but I'll bring you over anyway.
I'll bring you over anyway.
Don't you dare,
Don't you dare, you shouldn't have come here.
shouldn't have come here.
Don't you dare,
Don't you dare, you should never have come here.
never have come here.
I am in control.
I am in control but you can't tell, you can't tell a soul.
I am in control.
I am in control but you can't tell, you can't tell a soul.
You have to promise me,
you won't tell a soul,
and this is how it goes.
this is how it goes.
You're never going to let me sleep…
Don't you dare,
Don't you dare, you shouldn't have come here.
shouldn't have come here.
Don't you dare,
Don't you dare, you should never have come here.
never have come here.
I am in control.
I am in control but you can't tell, you can't tell a soul.
I am in control.
I am in control but you can't tell, you can't tell a soul.
The lyrics to Linea Aspera's song Attica paint a picture of a confrontational and uncomfortable encounter with someone the singer hasn't seen in a while. The singer repeatedly questions this person's presence and demands to know what they want. The refrain warns the person not to have come at all, and the singer emphasizes their control over the situation but urges the person not to tell anyone about what's going on.
Lyrically, Attica is a compelling exploration of power dynamics in relationships, particularly the control one can assert over another by keeping a secret. The singer is defiant but also displays vulnerability, expressing concern about the messy state of their place and bringing the visitor over anyway. The refrain also seems to suggest that the person has entered the singer's private space without permission, adding to the sense of violation and discomfort.
Overall, Linea Aspera's Attica is a haunting and atmospheric song that captures the tension and unease of an intense standoff between two people with a complicated history.

Well there's a face I hadn't seen in a while.
I hadn't seen you in a long time.
What am I doing?
What is my purpose or action?
Why are you here?
What is the reason for your presence?
What do you want from me?
What is the purpose of your visit or request?
My place is a mess and you can't stay, but I'll bring you over anyway.
My place is not ideal, yet I will still welcome you.
Don't you dare, don't you dare, you shouldn't have come here. shouldn't have come here.
You should not have come here and now you must leave immediately.
I am in control. I am in control but you can't tell, you can't tell a soul.
I am the one in charge, but you cannot speak of it to anyone.
You have to promise me, you won't tell a soul, and this is how it goes. this is how it goes.
You must swear to keep this a secret, and this is how it will proceed.
You're never going to let me sleep…
I will not be able to rest with this on my mind.
