Founded in November 2011, Linea Aspera were influenced by electronic bands from the 1980s. A reviewer reporting on a gig in January 2012 noted that their music sounded "very 80s", and that they had "sprung fully-formed" from the musical underground of East London. That month self-releasing an extended play cassette, titled Linea Aspera EP, it was described by the Burning Flame website as number one in their Top 20 EPs of 2012.
Signing to Dark Entries Records, the band's first album, Linea Aspera LP, was released on 25 September 2012. Brought out digitally and on vinyl by Dark Entries, a CD release was produced by the German company Genetic Records. Each LP was contained in a jacket sleeve designed by Dovile Shurpo and accompanied by an insert listing their song lyrics.

Hinterland
Linea Aspera Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's hell in there but I'll find my way
Because the jungle is home to me.
The jungle is home to me
We would never suffer again.
Hand just fits in hand,
Intertwined
Slipped over bone and under skin
They are tensing,
Tensing
Reaching into nothing.
But we would never suffer again,
We would never suffer again.
You just have to let me in.
You pulled me to the edge,
To the border of a hinterland,
And the fall
Was impossible to resist.
We would never suffer again.
You just have to let me in.
The lyrics of Linea Aspera's song Hinterland depict someone who is willing to find their way through an unknown and challenging place. The use of the term "wilderness" suggests a sort of danger that lies ahead, but the singer is determined to make their way through it. The line "It's hell in there but I'll find my way" suggests that the journey is not going to be an easy one, but the singer is confident that they will succeed.
The following lines, "Because the jungle is home to me, The jungle is home to me" adds an interesting element to the interpretation of the song. The jungle is often depicted as a wild and untamed place where only the strongest can survive. But to the singer, this is where they feel most at home. Perhaps this reflects the idea that the greatest challenges in life are what makes us feel most alive.
The repetition of the line "We would never suffer again" is significant in that it implies that the singer has suffered in the past. Maybe the journey through the "wilderness" is representative of the journey through life, and that the singer is determined to find a way to overcome their past struggles. The lines "You just have to let me in" suggest that there is someone else implicated in the story, that there is someone who needs to trust the singer and let them help.
