Linkin Park Lyrics

Forfeit the game
Before somebody else
Takes you out of the frame
And puts your name to shame
Cover up your face
You can't run the race
The pace is too fast
You just won't last

You love the way I look at you
While taking pleasure in the awful things you put me through
You take away if I give in
My life, my pride is broken

You like to think you're never wrong
(You live what you've learned)
You have to act like you're someone
(You live what you've learned)
You want someone to hurt like you
(You live what you've learned)
You want to share what you've been through
(You live what you've learned)

You love the things I say I'll do
The way I'll hurt myself again just to get back at you
You take away when I give in
My life, my pride is broken

You like to think you're never wrong
(You live what you've learned)
You have to act like you're someone
(You live what you've learned)
You want someone to hurt like you
(You live what you've learned)
You want to share what you've been through
(You live what you've learned)

Forfeit the game
Before somebody else
Takes you out of the frame
And puts your name to shame
Cover up your face
You can't run the race
The pace is too fast
You just won't last
Forfeit the game
Before somebody else
Takes you out of the frame
And puts your name to shame
Cover up your face
You can't run the race
The pace is too fast
You just won't last

You like to think you're never wrong
(You live what you've learned)
You have to act like you're someone
(You live what you've learned)
You want someone to hurt like you
(You live what you've learned)
You want to share what you've been through
(You live what you've learned)

You like to think you're never wrong
(Forfeit the game) (you live what you've learned)
You have to act like you're someone
(Forfeit the game) (you live what you've learned)
You want someone to hurt like you
(Forfeit the game) (you live what you've learned)
You want to share what you've been through
(You live what you've learned)

People often say Hybrid Theory is filled with teen angst and edge, but years later, looking back, I find this song really mature. Probably the most mature song of their catalogue, tells a realistic story about a bad relationship and I think it is not explicit enough to be obvious about it.

@the hearse It could be. I think it could apply to any type of abuse. Chester was emotionally abused by his parents too so I think this song is likely about them, but it could also be about his sexual abuser.

@RayRae_Official I don't follow your logic, there's really nothing to indicate that in these lyrics, but they did have a number of songs about drugs and addiction.

@Jeremy Philips Either that or it's about his strained relationship with his parents.

Jesus Christ guys, I'm devastated, becasuse of this band I became a musician myself, they saved me in my worst moments during my adolescence back in the earlys 2000. He didn't deserve whatever he was carrying, may his soul have peace..

@No1Guy Dude, the man was sick, and nobody knew how to make him better. Even being sick, he was (still is, in a way) helping others who suffered from the same sickness. Instead of cursing a good man for being sick, maybe you should put your energy into checking up on those close to you and make sure they're ok (statistically, at least one of them is not)
