Formed in 1996, Linkin Park rose to international fame with their debut studio album, Hybrid Theory (2000), which became certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Released during the peak of the nu metal scene, the album's singles' heavy airplay on MTV led the singles "One Step Closer", "Crawling" and "In the End" all to chart highly on the US Mainstream Rock chart. The lattermost also crossed over to the nation's Billboard Hot 100. Their second album, Meteora (2003), continued the band's success. The band explored experimental sounds on their third album, Minutes to Midnight (2007). By the end of the decade, Linkin Park was among the most successful and popular rock acts.
The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types on their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds. The band's fifth album, Living Things (2012), combined musical elements from all of their previous records. Their sixth album, The Hunting Party (2014), returned to a heavier rock sound, and their seventh album, One More Light (2017), was a substantially more pop-oriented record. Linkin Park went on a hiatus when longtime lead vocalist Bennington died in July 2017. In April 2022, Shinoda revealed the band was neither working on new music nor planning on touring for the foreseeable future.
Linkin Park is among the best-selling bands of the 21st century and the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have won two Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards and three World Music Awards. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth-greatest band of the music video era and the third-best of the new millennium. Billboard ranked Linkin Park No. 19 on the Best Artists of the Decade list. In 2012, the band was voted as the greatest artist of the 2000s in a Bracket Madness poll on VH1. In 2014, the band was declared as "The Biggest Rock Band in the World Right Now" by Kerrang!.

Linkin Park Lyrics

And blew away as I collapsed, so cold
A black wind took them away from sight
And now the darkness over day, that night
And the clouds above move closer
Looking so dissatisfied
But the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing
I used to be my own protection, but not now
'Cause my path has lost direction, somehow
A black wind took you away from sight
And now the darkness over day, that night
And the clouds above move closer
Looking so dissatisfied
And the ground below grew colder
As they put you down inside
But the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing
So now you're gone, and I was wrong
I never knew what it was like to be alone
On a Valentine's Day, on a Valentine's Day
On a Valentine's Day, on a Valentine's Day
On a Valentine's Day (I used to be my own protection)
On a Valentine's Day (but not now)
On a Valentine's Day ('cause my mind has lost direction
On a Valentine's Day (somehow)
On a Valentine's Day (I used to be my own protection
On a Valentine's Day (but not now)
On a Valentine's Day ('cause my mind has lost direction
On a Valentine's Day (somehow)
In Linkin Park's song Valentine's Day, the lyrics describe the feelings of loss and grief that come with the death of a loved one. The singer's insides have turned to ash, representing the emptiness and despair that have taken over. The image of a black wind taking them away symbolizes the sudden and unexpected nature of death. The darkness that has now settled over day and night reflects the perpetual sadness that comes with grief. The clouds above looking dissatisfied and the ground growing colder enhance the feelings of isolation and hopelessness.
The singer reflects on how they used to feel protected and in control but now feels lost and directionless. The line "On a Valentine's Day" is repeated throughout the song, highlighting how the day that is meant to celebrate love has now become a symbol of loss and loneliness. The repetition is haunting and adds to the melancholic tone of the song. The chorus describes how the heartless wind kept blowing, representing the constant and unrelenting pain of grief.

If you ever feel alone just remember, this comment section is always there for you. See you next year everybody.
Edit 1: Wow, it's been a year already. Time flies fast. I'm still lonely and kind of depressed, but that's alright. Life's good if you let it be. Happy V Day.
Edit 2: Another year. Still here. Still the same. At least the song is as good as ever. Happy Valentine's day. Stay awesome.
Edit 3: Fourth year in a row. And boy, what a year it has been. Everything happened all at once, funny how life does this sometimes, just to have everything resolved by itself a few days later. Anyway... Happy Valentine's day. Still alone. Still the same. Still listening.
Edit 4: Here we are again. I was debating on whether I wanted to edit this again this year. Do people even read those updates? :P But I settled down after finishing my yearly ritual of lying in bed listening to the song. Funny how things have changed. Funnier how things have stayed the same. War, poverty, people in pain. But bad times were never mant to last. And even if you are alone on this day, please dont lose the love in your heart. Love conquers all.
