City of Sin
Linus Young Lyrics

In the city of sin
You wanna play, you wanna go hard
In the city of sin
You wanna stay, you wanna find out what it's about today
In the city of sin
There'll be a lot of games, there'll be fast cars
In the city of sin
You are just what you are, you are just what I want
When the lights went out
I was standing in the street
When the lights go down
Won't you want to be with me?
And when you meet me again
There'll be no games, I'm gonna go hard
'Cause in the city of sin
I'm gonna stay, I'm gonna stay here
When the lights went out
I was standing in the street
When the lights go down
Won't you want to be with me?
When the lights go out
I'll be standing in New Orleans
When the lights go down
Won't you want to be with me?

When the lights go out
I'll be standing in New Orleans

Overall Meaning

Linus Young's "City of Sin" is a song about the allure and excitement of living on the edge in a city known for its vices. The first few lines of the song set the tone immediately, as the singer declares that in the city of sin, you want to play hard and experience all it has to offer. The mention of fast cars and games indicates that the city is filled with temptation and risk-taking. The repeated phrase "you are just what I want" could be interpreted as a warning to listeners not to get too caught up in the thrill of the city.

The chorus of the song focuses on the idea of being in the city when the lights go out. This phrase could represent the loss of innocence or morality, or it could simply refer to the excitement of the nightlife in the city. The singer wants to be with someone during these moments, inviting them to join in the excitement and recklessness of the city. The final line of the chorus points to the specific city the singer is referring to - New Orleans, a city known for its party scene.

The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the singer's desire to be with someone during the wild moments of the city. "City of Sin" is a commentary on the alluring nature of temptation and the attraction of a life lived on the edge. However, the repeated use of the phrase "when the lights go out" warns listeners that this lifestyle is not sustainable and may have consequences.

These guys have huge talent!!! Saw them open for ZZ Ward in Mpls and they were really unique with their sound. Like if they weren't signed and I was a record label, I would have felt like I won the lottery with finding these guys. They just have to get out there right. I also think they need to get a song out there on a huge soundtrack of some sort.
