She first appeared on the screen in 1983 in Chantal Akerman's film The Eighties. Ackerman recast her in the 1986 film Golden Eighties, a lighthearted, humorous French pop musical about the people who work together in a Parisian shopping center. Si Belle et Inutile

Carmin rubis
Bang! Dans leurs casques
Et pas une ecchymose
Visible sur mon masque
Décidément
Superficielle
Je trouverais ça dément
S'il existait un ciel
Qu'y a -t-il derrière les apparences
Ce que j'y vois n'a l'air
Que d'autres apparences
The song "Si Belle et Inutile" by Lio is about the superficiality of society and the way people value irrelevant things such as fancy appearance and material possessions. The lyrics depict the singer's indifference towards these values and her preference for things that actually matter. In the first verse, Lio describes how she spends a lot of time choosing the right color nail polish, but she doesn't care about the number of options or the brand, as long as it's red. This is a metaphor for how people tend to focus on the superficial aspects of life, rather than what really matters.
The chorus of the song "Si Belle et Inutile" translates to "So beautiful, so beautiful and useless, but it's your values that I find futile. So beautiful, so beautiful and childish, but it's your speeches that I find infantile." In this chorus, Lio expresses her view of the society's hypocrisy in valuing superficial beauty and trivial matters, that don't really have any significant meaning. She criticizes the people who put on a show of ostentatious beauty and grandeur to mask their insecurities and their inner emptiness.
The second verse of the song is more graphic and direct, describing the violence and suffering that happens in the world, while the singer is dancing to the rhythm of the music. Lio says that she's dancing while people are dying, but this doesn't stop her, nor does it stop them from dying. The last line of the song is a reflection on the nature of appearances, suggesting that what we see on the surface is often just a facade, without any real substance behind it.
Overall, "Si Belle et Inutile" is a critique of the society's obsession with superficial beauty and trivial values that ultimately have no worth, and the singer encourages people to focus on what really matters in life.
