You Go to My Head
Lio Lyrics

And you linger like a haunting refrain
And I find you spinning round in my brain
Like the bubbles in a glass of champagne
You go to my head
Like a sip of sparkling burgundy brew
And I find the very mention of you
The thrill of the thought
That you might give a thought to my plea, cast a spell over me
Still I say to myself get a hold of yourself
Can't you see that it never can be?
You go to my head
With a smile that makes my temperature rise
Like a summer with a thousand July's
You intoxicate my soul with your eyes
Though I'm certain that this heart of mine
Hasn't a ghost of a chance in this crazy romance
You go to my head
You go to my head
In Lio's song "You Go to My Head," she sings about someone who has taken over her thoughts and feelings. The phrases "haunting refrain" and "spinning round in my brain" suggest that this person is all-consuming and even a bit overwhelming. She compares this feeling to the bubbles in a glass of champagne, which are effervescent and intoxicating.
The second verse continues with the comparison to alcohol, with the person being likened to a "sparkling burgundy brew" and the mere mention of their name being like a "kicker in a julep or two." The excitement and thrill of the possibility that this person might reciprocate her feelings casts a spell over her, making her feel intoxicated and out of control.
However, she also knows that this is an impossible situation and that her love for this person will likely not be requited. The lyrics "Still I say to myself get a hold of yourself / Can't you see that it never can be?" reveal her own awareness of the unlikelihood of a happy ending. But despite this, the person still has a hold on her heart and soul, with their smile making her "temperature rise" and their eyes intoxicating her.
Overall, the song depicts the complex and often difficult emotions that come with unrequited love. While the person may be all-consuming and intoxicating, the reality is that the relationship is likely not going anywhere, leading to a sense of sadness and longing.
