Love For Sale
Lisa Ekdahl Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is the heavy tread of the heavy feet
That belong to a lonesome cop
I open shop
When the moon so long has been gazing down
On the wayward ways of this wayward town
That her smile becomes a smirk
I go to work
Love for sale
Appetising young love for sale
Love that's fresh and still unspoiled
Love that's only slightly soiled
Love for sale
Who will buy?
Who would like to sample my supply?
Who's prepared to pay the price
For a trip to paradise?
Love for sale
Let the poets pipe of love
In their childish way
I know every type of love
Better far than they
If you want the thrill of love
I've been through the mill of love
Old love, new love
Every love but true love
Love for sale
Appetising young love for sale
If you want to buy my wares
Follow me and climb the stairs
Love for sale
Love for sale
The lyrics to Lisa Ekdahl's song "Love For Sale" are a clever commentary on the commodification of love, specifically the way that love is turned into a product that can be bought and sold. The song evokes a sense of isolation and desperation, with the singer opening "shop" in the empty streets when there are no other sounds except for the heavy footfalls of a lone police officer. This sets the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer offers up "appetizing young love for sale" in a way that is both seductive and unsettling. The lyrics play on the idea of love as a scarce resource, something that is valuable precisely because it is so hard to come by.
This is underscored by the repeated refrain of "Love for sale", which takes on a jarring quality the more it is repeated. The lines "Love that's fresh and still unspoiled / Love that's only slightly soiled" suggest that the love being sold is not just a product, but a commodity that has been exploited and degraded. The final lines, "If you want the thrill of love / I've been through the mill of love / Old love, new love / Every love but true love", reinforce this sense of cynicism, suggesting that the singer has experienced every kind of love except for the real thing.
Overall, "Love For Sale" is a song that uses irony and wit to comment on the way that love is often treated as a commodity rather than a genuine emotion. The repeated refrain and the seductive tone of the lyrics serve to highlight the darker undertones of the song, and make it clear that the singer is not simply celebrating love, but commenting on the ways it can be exploited and sold.

Sounds fair. It's a bit comedic. I liked it! Vs the original was much slower & dark...which more suitable to capture the vibe & nuance & mood of the meaning of this song! But still fairly tastefully done !
