A stunning vocalist, Hannigan regularly performed live with Rice from early 2001 until March 2007 when Rice's official website announced that his professional relationship with Hannigan had "run its creative course". During 2005 Hannigan and Rice co-wrote Unplayed Piano which was released to support the Free Aung San Suu Kyi 60th Birthday Campaign. Hannigan also appeared on backing vocals on Mic Christopher's album Skylarkin, as well as the soundtrack to "Goldfish Memory".
In 2006 Hannigan featured as part of The Cake Sale, a collective of mostly Irish, but featuring some international artists, formed by Brian Crosby of Bell X1. On 3rd November 2006 they released a self-titled album in Ireland to raise money for Oxfam and the Irish Make Trade Fair campaign. The album was so successful that it was given an international release the following year; released 10th September 2007 in the UK and 16th October 2007 in the US.
Hannigan has since gone on to pursue her own solo career, releasing her first album Sea Sew in Ireland on September 12th 2008, debuting at number 4 and earning her a Choice Music Prize nomination, two Meteor Music Award nominations and has been shortlisted for the Mercury Prize 2009. The album's first single was Lille followed by I Don't Know.
Sea Sew got an official US release on February 3rd 2009 and a UK release on May 4th 2009. On 21 July 2009, two days after a triumphant performance in torrential rain at the Latitude Festival, it was announced that Sea Sew had been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize in the UK.
The O Sleep Songfacts reports that Hannigan began writing for her second album in late 2009 and only completed it in March 2011. However, she and producer Joe Henry spent a mere week laying down the tracks in Wales. Passenger was released in the US and Canada on September 20, 2011 and in the Republic of Ireland on October 7, 2011.

Keep It All
Lisa Hannigan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Bedecked with bicycles to pick and I keep it all For you,
It wouldn't do wandering all adrift so I keep it all For you,
There's fire in the belly of our ship, I keep it all
Call if the lights on, come in and lay low Just so that you know,
Go on and Fall down and hold your ground,
A harbor that grows And how could you know,
For you we fill our sails with tales and fables I keep it all For you,
To bear you through stormy seas unstable and I keep it all, For you,
You're welcome to all that's on my table I keep it all and you,
I count you til I fall asleep, I keep it all.
Call if the lights on, come in and lay low Just so that you know,
Go on and Fall down and hold your ground,
A harbor that grows And how could you know, that I keep it all
What you say we come up with the sun,
The morning bell to come and be my friend until the end I'll be your friend as well
The lyrics to Lisa Hannigan's "Keep it All" express the singer's devotion to someone special. The first verse sings "For you, we steer a house of smoke and brick, and I keep it all." Here, the singer talks about building a home for someone that's sturdy and impenetrable, like a "house of smoke and brick." She'll keep everything safe and protected, whatever that may be. In the second verse, Hannigan mentions the "fire in the belly of our ship," which is a metaphor for going through life's obstacles and overcoming them. This might mean that the singer and her special someone are in it together and are willing to fight for their relationship.
The chorus of the song is a repeated phrase: "Call if the lights on, come in and lay low. Go on and fall down and hold your ground. A harbor that grows, and how could you know? That I keep it all." The singer is telling whomever she's addressing that they can always come to her and feel safe. She's that "harbor that grows," meaning the more time they spend together, the stronger their relationship becomes.
The final verse of the song shifts slightly in tone. Hannigan sings, "What you say we come up with the sun, the morning bell to come and be my friend until the end. I'll be your friend as well." It seems that here, she's offering an even deeper level of support and commitment to the person she's addressing. They'll be more than just romantic partners - they'll also be true friends, through thick and thin.
Overall, "Keep it All" is a song that speaks to the deep connection and devotion the singer feels for someone special. She's promising to keep everything safe, to be a safe harbor in a storm, and to be a true friend 'til the end.

This song just slays me. She is so adorkable! I nominate this song as the anthem of anti-materialism. Bugger the banksters, give the gift of memories. (And Lisa Hannigan albums.)
