Waiting For Wednesday

Pain always is the sign.
Waiting for wednesday, no proof of mine exists,
So I don't have to take it back.
Don't want to show you good-bye,
Show you good-bye.
Show you good-bye.
Show you good-bye.
Waiting for wednesday.
Waiting for wednesday, I pray you'll put me on the spot.
I do believe you, that you'll love me that you'll leave me.
Don't want to show you good-bye,
Show you good-bye.
What will I do when you come near to me?
You'll put me on the spot.
You've been doing this a long, long time,
Not that you're better than me,
But that you do it a lot.
Now I'm waiting for wednesday,
Waiting for wednesday,
Waiting for wednesday,
I'm waiting for wednesday.
I'm gonna show you good-bye,
Show you good-bye,
Show you good-bye,
Show you good-bye.
Now I'm waiting for wednesday,
You're back from out of town,
The west is dry, your mind is clear,
And I don't want to be here,
I don't want to be here,
I don't want to be here,
To show you good-bye.
And I'm waiting for wednesday,
Waiting for wednesday,
I'm waiting for wednesday, to show you good-bye.
I don't want to be here, to show you good-bye.
Waiting for wednesday.
I don't want to be here.
Waiting for wednesday, to show you good-bye,
To show you good-bye!
The song "Waiting for Wednesday" by Lisa Loeb is a melancholic tune about the anxiety of waiting for something that may never come. In the lyrics, the singer is waiting for Wednesday, a day that seemingly holds significance for her, although we never find out why. She is hoping that something will happen or change on that day, but as it approaches, she begins to feel less optimistic. The line "my stomach doesn't hurt enough" suggests that she is struggling with both physical and emotional pain, but she is unsure whether Wednesday will bring relief or make things worse.
The repetition of "I don't want to show you good-bye" seems to indicate that the singer is hesitant to let someone go. Perhaps the person she is addressing is someone she has feelings for but is afraid of losing. The line "you've been doing this a long, long time" suggests that this person has a pattern of leaving or hurting others, and the singer knows this but is still hoping for a different outcome. In the end, she decides that she doesn't want to be there to say goodbye and is waiting for Wednesday to come and go so that she can move on.
Overall, the song captures the uncertainty and fear that can come with waiting for something beyond our control. The repeated chorus line of "waiting for Wednesday" creates a haunting sense of anticipation, and the singer's reluctance to say goodbye adds poignancy to the lyrics.
