Over Me
Lisa Marie Presley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I’ve seen her face, its okay it ain’t nothing great
Yeah she’s cool in a gap toothed
Hippy chick way
I’ve seen the way you and she
Put on a play
And how she plays the part
Much better than I played
Can it be your over me
She took my place, she saved the day
It’s hard to see your over me
That when she took my place
She saved the day

I’ve seen that she likes to eat
Whatever you make
And how well she can bake that cake
I wouldn’t bake
What a breath of fresh air she is
In my wake

Can it be your over me
She took my place, she saved the day
It’s hard to see your over me
That when she took my place
She saved the day

You hope there’s no bad blood,
You want to be my friend
To say hi now and then
You know there’s very bad blood
And I was never your friend to say hi

Can it be your over me
She took my place, she saved the day
It’s hard to see your over me

That when she took my place
She saved the day

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lisa Marie Presley's "Over Me" describe the complicated emotions that come with seeing your ex-partner move on and find happiness with someone else. Presley acknowledges that the new woman in her ex's life might not be conventionally attractive, but she recognizes the easy, carefree way in which they interact. The new woman appears to be more adept at playing the role of a partner than Presley herself was, and the singer seems resigned to the fact that her ex has moved on.

Presley notes that the new woman is a refreshing presence in her ex's life, able to enjoy simple things like sharing meals and baking together. Presley is hurt by the situation but tries to put on a brave face, hoping that she and her ex can remain on friendly terms. However, she recognizes that there is an undercurrent of tension, and that even a friendly relationship may be difficult to achieve.

The song uses simple language and imagery to convey complex emotions. Presley's performance emphasizes the sadness and vulnerability she feels, even as she tries to move on.

Lisa didn't have a unique name but you're right she was very much
Unique in every way. And Americans does not relate to unique they do not like unique here in America.
If you have a unique name here in America their Bias toward it,
If you are unique on the stage there Bias towards it,
America 🇺🇸
Loves keeping up with the Joneses
They have been that way for hundreds of years
You have got to have the same name, you have got to sing and act like a poplar singer or you're not in the Jones Family. I love ❤️ her because she had the guts to hit that stage being unique not carrying what others thought.
She live her life being the unique person she wanted to be,
Not what everyone else wanted out of
Her and I've always ❤️ 💕 her for that, she was so cool in her own right, we need more people like Lisa, R.i. P.

I can't believe I've never listened to LMP music before?? She's absolutely amazing she has a hauntingly beautiful voice. Really sad that someone so beautiful and vibrant is dead at such a young age

LMFP was beautiful, smart, cool, funny, nice, down to earth, a rebell, a family person, a great musician and songwriter. I LOVED her look, her style, how she smiled and how she moved on stage or videos. She was unique and an exceptional human being. I miss her and the world really lost a real treasure. The ones who still don't recognize that will find out.
