Oh man, he's really gotten old. Makes me kind of sad. I'm watching Himym again and everything is still so beautiful, peaceful and nostalgic. The characters all have charm. I really like the show. You would know if you watched this episode as in the second part he shows Sophie a picture of his daughter, Ellie, which only came after he went for a perfect month, following his divorce and separation from Robin. Robin also mentions in the first season that she has been married, single and everything else in between. So a single, experienced, but more mature Barney could act like a perfect paternal figure for most of the group as they struggle deeply with adulthood.

Both robin’s and Barney’s appearances on the show are incredible it makes you want to have a new show for the OG5, the thing about HIMYF is that it’s trying to do its own thing but it lives under an incredibly big shadow that HIMYM left behind, the show it’s not bad at all, I had a great time with it, but I made a huge mistake, I binged all 9 Seasons of HIMYM and then immediately started HIMYF, and as good as the show is it will never live up to how Legen… wait for it… dary, it’s predecessor is.

And I understand how getting a few of the OG5 could boost the series, however you get them too frequently and you get the new cast completely overshadowed

I think many things come together.
I think that somehow he had to resume a character that he last played 9 years ago. and obviously it is difficult to get used to that again. On the other hand, I don't see much chemistry between the actors in this series.
At HIMYM we would see friends on and off set. It was incredible because the chemistry they had within the series, they also handled within it. That is why the series had a great impact, but that is not noticeable in this one.
For me this series does not exist, and for me the end of Barney Stinson was HIMYM.
As well as the Legendary stories of how he met the love of his life.

That absolutely was not character development. He already had developed after his daughter was born! My expectation would be that he would long last be passed needing an electro device to change his behavior. In the original he had started to act like he was going to flirt with some young girls and then told them to cover up and get home lol! I think they could have made him still have some antics but not made it seem like he was still working on his old habits. Also they should have played up the fact that he started driving a little bit more, like when she said that she was a new driver he could have reflected on his time learning.

The writing for Barney here seems really weird. I mean, I get that Barney was a womanizer and even a creep for most of HIMYM's run but this happens after the events of the last episode of HIMYM, right? So, after being married for Robin for 3 years AND after having a baby, why is he still supposedly struggling with not being creepy. It feels like the only reason Barney, or anyone else from HIMYM is appearing on this show is for ratings & views. First season felt pretty generic and not fitting in the modern tv time but i've gotta say they've improved quite a bit in this last season. I think it's because of the type of atmosphere.
Unlike HIMYM where you can see that off camera there was also a lot of communication and comfort between the actors, that made it easier for emotions to be more natural. On the other hand, in this one, you can see that everything is very forced. The girl he's talking to literally seems so emotionless.
I think too many factors come together. In addition to the fact of representing a character that he had not interpreted for 9 years.

I don't think it's because of toxic masculinity, so much as I think it's because Barney's character was, well, heavily prone to molester vibes like Quagmire in Family Guy. I don't think any of this has anything to do with masculinity, positively or negatively.

That said, I honestly liked Barney's as a sleezy scumbag, but I can see why his prior character could have made some uncomfortable.

He makes a great sidekick and vest friend to a more morally upstanding protagonist, but I don’t think he could work as a lead.

Also I think they didn't know their audience which made it a moving target without a guarantee that people will watch (unlike a show airing on a tv network).
