With powerful and sultry vocals, these songs propelled her debut album Together Forever to gold status with over 700,000 copies sold. Both songs were such big dance music hits that they are credited as helping renew interest in Freestyle music in the early 90s, which had been fading in popularity due to the rise of mainstream pop music and grunge at the time.
Melendez has since gone on to record her debut Spanish language Salsa album "Un Poco De Mi" featuring the major hit song, "Algo De Mi." Several years later, Melendez formed a music duo with fellow Freestyle Diva, Cynthia, called Liscyn. Together they issued their single, "I Can't Change Your Mind." It was warmly received by supporters. This was followed by successful touring.
Recently, Lisette recorded with producer Carlos Berrios producing two new songs "I Need a Lover" and "Don't Ever Say." Both songs are included on his Freestyle compilation "Don't Look Back"

In this song, Lisette Melendez talks about a relationship that seems to have lost trust and connection. She starts by acknowledging her partner's previous statement of love for her, but she never believed it because she can see the insincerity in his eyes. Although he found his way back to her and touches her, his heart is still filled with lies. Lisette remains honest with herself and admits that she does not necessarily need to love him, but deep down, she still does. Her heart cannot function without him, and she wants him to touch it again.
Lisette then recalls the times she cried, and although he noticed, he never tried to understand what was wrong. She needs him to hold her hand and acknowledge their love for one another.
