Go Your Own Way
Lissie Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Isn't the right thing to do
How can I ever change things
That I feel
If I could
Baby I'd give you my world
How can I
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way
Tell me why
Everything turned around
Packing up
Shacking up's all you want to do
If I could
Baby I'd give you my world
Open up
Everything's waiting for you
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
Yeah yeah yeah...
Yeah yeah yeah...
Yeah yeah yeah...
Yeah yeah yeah...
You can go your own way
You can go your own way
The lyrics to Lissie's cover of "Go Your Own Way" originally by Fleetwood Mac, express a conflicted and frustrated relationship where one partner wants to give love and support but realizes that it may not be reciprocated or accepted by the other partner. The lyrics touch upon the theme of unrequited love and the difficulty of letting go of a relationship that is not healthy or satisfying. The singer questions their ability to change things and make the relationship work, but realizes that they cannot force the other person to accept their love if they do not want to. The chorus "You can go your own way, go your own way" suggests that the singer is giving permission for the other person to leave and pursue their own path.
The repetition of the phrase "You can call it another lonely day" emphasizes the emotional pain and loneliness experienced by the singer in the aftermath of the relationship. The reflective tone of the lyrics suggests a sense of melancholy and regret, but also a sense of acceptance and moving on.
Overall, the lyrics to "Go Your Own Way" reflect the complexities of intimate relationships and the challenges of letting go when things do not work out.
