In 1976 at the age of 17 she became one of the founding members of the legendary teenage all-female hard rock band The Runaways. There she played lead guitar.
After the group folded in 1979, she began a solo career. Her guitar playing was well respected amongst her peers, both when she was a member of The Runaways and as a solo act. When she had the material to back her up, Ford was inarguably capable of rocking out aggressively and assertively, and more times than not, better than the best of her male counterparts. Her first two albums, Out for Blood and Dancin' on the Edge were relatively successful, and in 1985, Ford was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Performance for "Gotta Let Go", along with Wendy O. Williams and Pia Zadora. However the musical genre of "arena metal rock" had already crested and was now beginning its decline in the second half of the 1980s.
Nothing was heard from Ford for the next four years; a follow-up to Dancin' on the Edge, titled The Bride Wore Black, was abandoned and never released, as Ford switched from Mercury Records to RCA Records. By the time Ford returned again, the lighter pop-metal she had long favored had broken through to mainstream audiences, which set the stage for her most commercially successful album, 1988's Lita. With Sharon Osbourne as her manager, and slickly produced by Mike Chapman, the album featured Ford's first commercial hit, the #12 "Kiss Me Deadly". Its follow-up ballad, a duet with Ozzy Osbourne entitled "Close My Eyes Forever", provided both artists with their first Top Ten single.
Lita Ford is back with a vengeance! Her new album Wicked Wonderland is due for release October 6th 2009. More information can be found on her My Space profile: Lita Ford Official My Space Profile
Fatal Passion

But you were the bitch babe
I guess you'd call it a fatal passion
You try to pull my trigger, always leading my on
Makin' up your own rules, I was always the clown
Times must change now, you'll see it my way
I just can't take it
What you don't know, I must say
Uh, huh
You play with fire, you're gonna get burned
Don't call me insane, 'cause that's not my game
Turn your head, you're dead
From a fatal passion
Cross your heart and hope you survive
Fatal passion
You're like a broken picture
A mirrored image I can't see
You tried to lock me up
And you swallowed the key
My mind's been twisted
Time my wounds must heal
Lookin' back in anger
Now you know just how I feel
But tell me where do you draw the line,
Uh, huh
It's time that you realize
Don't call me insane,
'Cause that's not my game
Turn your head, you're dead
You try to pull my trigger, always leading my on
Makin' up your own rules, I was always the clown
I guess we both had a lot to learn,
Uh, huh
You play with fire, you're gonna get burned
Don't call me insane, 'cause that's not my game
Turn your head, you're dead
From a fatal passion
Cross your heart and hope you survive

Fatal passion...
The lyrics to Lita Ford's song Fatal Passion describe a tumultuous and ultimately doomed romantic relationship. The singer fell in love with the other person when they were young, but that person betrayed them and made them feel like a fool. The relationship has become toxic, with the other person trying to control and manipulate the singer. The singer feels angry and hurt, and warns the other person that they are playing with fire and will get burned. Ultimately, the singer realizes that they need to break free from the relationship in order to survive.
This song contains a number of powerful themes that are explored through evocative imagery and emotionally charged language. The idea of a "fatal passion" suggests that love can be dangerous and even deadly, particularly when it becomes unhealthy or unbalanced. The repeated phrase "you play with fire, you're gonna get burned" reinforces this idea, as does the use of contrasting imagery, such as the broken picture and the swallowed key. The singer's struggle to break free from the other person's control and assert their own autonomy and agency is another important theme, one that many listeners may relate to on a personal level.

At the age of 18, I fell in love with you
But you were the bitch babe
You acted cruelly towards me
I guess you'd call it a fatal passion
Our love was dangerously intense and destructive
You try to pull my trigger, always leading my on
You manipulate my emotions and actions
Makin' up your own rules, I was always the clown
You had control over the relationship and made me feel foolish
Times must change now, you'll see it my way
The situation needs to change and I will make sure it does
I just can't take it
I cannot tolerate the way you treat me anymore
What you don't know, I must say
I have something important to tell you
I guess we both had a lot to learn,
We both made mistakes and have things to learn
Uh, huh
Hmm, yes
You play with fire, you're gonna get burned
Your actions will have consequences
Don't call me insane, 'cause that's not my game
Do not label me as crazy, because that is not the case
Turn your head, you're dead
Look away or ignore me at your own risk
From a fatal passion
Our intense love is dangerous
Cross your heart and hope you survive
Promise to try your best to stay alive
You're like a broken picture
You are flawed and difficult to understand
A mirrored image I can't see
I do not recognize the reflection of us in our relationship
You tried to lock me up
You attempted to control me
And you swallowed the key
You denied me the freedom to leave
My mind's been twisted
My thoughts and feelings have been distorted
Time my wounds must heal
It will take time for me to recover from the emotional pain you caused me
Lookin' back in anger
Reflecting on the past with negative emotions
Now you know just how I feel
You understand the depth of my emotions now
But tell me where do you draw the line,
Specify the point where you stop taking things too far
It's time that you realize
You need to understand the reality of the situation
From a fatal passion
Our intense love is dangerous
Cross your heart and hope you survive
Promise to try your best to stay alive
