Ignoring all of the romantic lyrics and themes in this, this song actually describes pretty well how I feel about my dad. I genuinely wish he was a better man. This song really captures how we can't just turn off our love for people, even when they're so bad for us. I had to move away from my parents before I could begin to heal my relationship with my dad. If you need to do the same with someone, please know that it's not always weakness to walk away. Like the song says, sometimes the bravest thing you can do is run.

But throughout all my pregnancy and the first year of my baby's life - which I had to go through alone - I too was questioning it, in the mirror, at 4am. My ex wife used to play this song in the background and I never really listened to it.. till I took her on a family trip, to Korea, and then she left me after. This song kept popping up to me and I finally listened to it.. then I have listened to it dozens and dozens of times.. it helped me cry the pain away but also help me be a better man. Ya, I absolutely agree with you. This song made me aware of Taylor's talents after I researched who wrote this song. I used to lump Taylor in with Bieber until I educated myself on her raw talents. I am not a huge fan of Taylor, but I am a huge fan of her genius. For all of the haters of Taylor, only a fool would ignore that she is in fact a genius to the industry, and deserving all of the positivity that follows with what she brings to the table. Reading through the comments and seeing what this song has meant to people is so great. Just a shame that an album written by the same woman (Taylor Swift) largely about the same life experience has gotten absolutely shat on by the GP over the years because 'she needs to get over it and stop bashing her exes and making money off them, she's crazy'. If Little Big Town had recorded Red in 2012, would those people have more readily accepted it? because it wouldn't have been presented by a 'too-emotional' 21/22 year old? anyways just my thoughts. Just know that the man isnt always 100% the problem, there are some pretty messed up women out there too bro. Im currently in a 20 yr relationship that has been ending for over a year now. I cheated 9 years ago, was the dumbest thing I could of ever done to her. She came back to me then and a year later we finally got married, 11 years after Im 46 now and pretty much gonna be single with 3 kids and a mortgage. We used to be the couple everyone wanted to be, now we are the couple everyone tries to stay away from. Not sure where or how everything went to shit a year ago ie started fighting all the time, yeah I dunno, it just sucks when you had everything you ever needed and throw it away for someone else you thought was better. Sad that after all these years and too late I wanna grow up🙄. Things do get better, thats what I keep telling myself its not the end of the world. After all you put yourself in the situation, you can get yourself out of it. Taylor is a Genius when it comes to song writing. She has a way of making you feel that the song was wrote especially for you. I have given the same man more times than I care to admit. 45 yrs 4 sons and 8 grandkids and I literally, physically, mentally and emotionally CAN NOT TAKE ANOTHER DAY. Nobody can sing this song better. I've heard Taylor's version. It was good. But Karen's voice is deeper and so much smoother. It's a literal flawless performance vocals wise. You have been through a lot and no woman should ever be put in an abusive situation by any man. @Suzanne I feel ya on that 1. Was with him almost 10 yrs. Highly abusive in everyway possible, always used sex as a reward system or if I wanted something. Gave me 3 sons, lost all them to the cps system. They got adopted out, I can't see them etc. I tried over n over to do my case plan from cps but it kept falling apart, I even left him & cps had an issue with that because I'm disabled. I tried getting a job etc but that wasn't enough. Finally was told by judge if I didn't sign my rights away that I was going to jail for contempt of court etc. He got remarried & had 2 kids n state took them away from him & her because he molested 2 kids that lived around our house. My first time hearing this song. Never heard something like this that talks about the hurt and the need to leave, but at the same time also acknowledges the love. It's validating. This song hits so close to home. I ended a 4 year relationship with a man that I planned to marry and start a family with. I discovered 2-1/2 years into the relationship that he is an addict and had been abusing opioids for many years. His addiction got worse and he turned emotionally and mentally abusive. If you have experience with what meth and heroin can do to a person, then you may understand what I'm talking about. It was a very bad situation and I had to make the tough decision to end the relationship 5 months ago. I'm constantly haunted by the "what if's". I wish he had gotten the help he needed when there was still hope to have the future we wanted together. I wish he had been a better man, not just for me, but for himself and his family.

I did so today because of this song. I listened to it over and over again. until I gained the confidence to break it off.

I was emotionally mentally and verbally abused for 4 years. After I broke up with him our neighbors tried to tell him, to move on and leave me alone. He asked who was at my apt he would ask when I would go out if I met anyone. He would beat me up if I made noise on my apt it was fault he had to move. The landlord also told him to stop. I was in therpy because of it and the bravest thing was run nov 2012 my apt was packed with my things and my new man and I just uprooted my life and poof this year makes 10 years moved away and with the same man. Then my ex tried to friend me on fb and I blocked his tushy. Also I still struggle with what my ex did to me some days it's not so bad other days it takes all I got to feel normal physical scars heal but what's inside takes a lifetime

To say LITTLE BIG TOWN was awesome wouldn't give them their proper props! Always been a fan. Seeing you all in person was UNBELIEVABLE AND AMAZING! This song means more to me than I could adequately put into words. I first heard it just as it became clear that I needed to walk away from a toxic relationship, and the words gave voice to feelings I couldn't express. Although it's taken me a while to break free (and in my heart I'm still not totally free) this song gave me the courage to do "the bravest thing I ever did". It's been a year now and I still feel weak and addicted to the time it felt like magic, but I hear this song and I know I'm better off on my own. Thank you, Taylor, for masterfully putting into words what I could not, and to Kimberly, Karen, Jimi, and Philip, for making it into such achingly beautiful music. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Putting aside the relationship part and think of it more in the aspect of a absent parent- I think that's why I like this song it just makes me think of my dad and I wish he was more involved and was a better man. Taylor sent the finished song to Little Big Town for them to have a listen and decide if they wanted to cut it or not. People do not understand that Taylor is quite the musician as well and is often mistaken as being the type of artist that only contributes the odd lyric here and there. If that were the case Taylor Swift would be spelled C-A-R-R-I-E U-N-D-E-R-W-O-O-D!!!
