Don't Waste My Time
Little Big Town Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been here before
It only made me cry
I felt so sure
I never questioned why
Till I woke up alone
That's why I have to ask you
Baby what's behind your kiss
I need to know your heart's in this

[Chorus]
I'm waiting for the kind of love
That is strong enough
To walk through anything
So don't waste my time
So don't waste my time
I only want to play for keeps
want to fall in deep
If you don't just say goodbye
Don't waste my time

The words you say
Are what I want to hear
Promises you make
Are music to my ears
Is it the heat of the moment talking
Promises come easily
Give me something to believe

[Chorus]

Time, time, time, time

[Chorus: x2]

Don't waste my time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Little Big Town’s song Don’t Waste My Time express a desire for a deeper, more meaningful love than what the singer has experienced in the past. She has been hurt before and is now cautious in matters of the heart. She questions the intentions of her current love interest, asking him what’s behind his kiss and if his heart is truly in the relationship. She is waiting for a love that is strong enough to weather any storm, and will not settle for anything less. She only wants to play for keeps and fall in deep. The singer pleads for honesty from her partner, saying that if he can't give her what she needs, then he should just say goodbye and not waste her time.

In essence, the song is about the fear of getting hurt and the importance of finding true love. The singer is not willing to settle for anything less than a love that is strong and enduring. The theme is relatable to anyone who has been hurt in a previous relationship and is afraid to take a chance on love again. The message of the song is to be brave enough to put yourself out there to find the kind of love that is worth fighting for.

I really like their older stuff. They always say it wasn’t the sound they wanted, they were just trying to please the record company. But damn I think it’s awesome. The harmonies are great and it has an obvious pop country feel and they all look like soap opera stars. What’s not to like.
