After a return to college to focus on her studies, Hesketh along with two of her fellow students formed the electronic/indie pop band Dead Disco in 2005. The band had limited releases of their four singles but due to increasingly different ideas about the band's musical direction, Hesketh left to pursue a solo career. Hesketh has cited as influences The Human League, Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, Pink Floyd, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, and Jean-Michel Jarre.
Hesketh began writing her own songs and posting covers on the social networking sites such as YouTube and MySpace. After appearing on several shows including Later... with Jools Holland and Last Call with Carson Daly, Hesketh entered production on her debut album. With increasing media attention regarding her then-yet-to-be-released debut album, Hesketh topped the BBC Sound of 2009 poll and received a BRIT Critics Choice nomination. She has been linked to a wave of breakthrough female artists in their twenties playing 1980s-influenced music, including Lady Gaga, Ladyhawke, Florence and the Machine, and Elly Jackson of La Roux.
Her debut album, Hands, was released on 8 June 2009 on 679 Recordings and Atlantic Records to generally positive reviews. The album peaked at number five on the UK Albums Chart and at number twenty on the Irish Albums Chart. Hands included a collaboration with Phil Oakey from The Human League on the song "Symmetry". The first single off the album "New in Town" became a top twenty hit, while the next single "Remedy", produced by RedOne, reached the top ten. She has also released the EP Illuminations in the United States.
Little Boots' second album, Nocturnes, was released on 5 May 2013 on her own label On Repeat.

Little Boots Lyrics

Changing lanes in my mind
Passing towns we don't know
Heading for the unknown
All our friends left behind
They're not even on my mind
They have lives, they have plans
They could never understand
Meet me on the motorway
Together we can make our great escape
Meet me on the motorway
Maybe we can find our perfect place
We can drive away
We can drive away
Meet me on the motorway
It's just me and you
It's just me and you
Getting late, coffee's cold
Heavy eyes, on the road
We won't stop, no we won't break
Shadows hide, overtake
The small town we left behind
We won't drown, we won't hide
A new life, a new plan
They would never understand
Meet me on the motorway
Together we can make our great escape
Meet me on the motorway
Maybe we can find our perfect place
We can drive away
We can drive away
Meet me on the motorway
It's just me and you
It's just me and you
We won't look back, so don't look back
We won't look back, so don't look back
We won't look back, so don't look back
We won't look back, so don't look back
We won't look back, so don't look back
We won't look back, so don't look back
We won't look back
Meet me on the motorway
Together we can make our great escape
Meet me on the motorway
Maybe we can find our perfect place
We can drive away
We can drive away
Meet me on the motorway
It's just me and you
It's just me and you
Little Boots's "Motorway" is a romantic love song about two people who are leaving their past behind and driving towards the unknown. The lyrics describe the neon lights and foreign names passing by, as they change lanes in their mind and pass towns they don't know. The couple is escaping from their lives, friends, and plans that they could never fully understand. It's a journey towards a new life and plan, with new horizons to explore.
The chorus repeats the phrase "Meet me on the motorway" as a motif of hope and freedom, an invitation to share a new adventure together. The motorway is a symbol of the journey, the road to the future, where everything is possible, and nothing is predetermined. The couple can drive away, not looking back, leaving behind all the obstacles, the doubts, and the fears that might have held them back.
The lyrics express the desire to find a perfect place, where the two lovers can start afresh, unencumbered by their past. They keep driving, passing shadows and small towns, with heavy eyes and cold coffee, but resolute and determined. They are a team, united, in the pursuit of a better life, a new beginning. The song is a metaphor for taking risks, for believing in oneself and in one's partner. It's an ode to freedom and love, two elements that go hand in hand on the motorway of life.
