Little Junior Parker and his Blue Flames Lyrics

Train I ride, sixteen coaches long
Train I ride, sixteen coaches long
Well that long black train carried my baby from home

Train train, coming on 'round the bend
Train train, coming on 'round the bend
Well it took my baby, it's gon' do it again
Train train, coming on down the line

Train train, coming on down the line
Well it's bringing my baby, 'cause she's mine all mine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Little Junior Parker and his Blue Flames's song Mystery Train describe the journey of the singer and his lost love. The train they ride is sixteen coaches long and he claims that it was the same train that carried his lover away from home. As the train comes around the bend, he knows that it will keep taking his lover away from him time and time again. However, even as the train continues down the line, the singer is convinced that it will eventually bring his lover back to him because she belongs to him alone.

The song portrays a feeling of sadness and helplessness as the train acts as a metaphor for the circumstances beyond the singer's control. The repetition of the train's arrival and departure emphasizes the cyclical nature of the singer's emotions and his eternal hope for the return of his lover. The song is an excellent example of blues music, characterized by its melancholic themes, simple but emotive melodies, and repetitive refrains.
