Heebie-Jeebies
Little Richard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Say Mama can I go out tonight?
Say Mama would it be all right?
They got a record party down the street
Say Mama cant you hear that beat

Whoaaaaaa

Say Mama don't you look that way
Cause I know what you going to say
Well a Mama don't get mad
Your going to say go ask your Dad

Whoaaaaaa

Say Mama don't you look that way
Cause I know what you going to say

Well a Mama don't get mad
Your going to say go ask your Dad

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Little Richard's "Heebie-Jeebies" depict a relatable scenario for many teenage boys. The song follows a young man who wants to go to a record party and is asking his mother for permission to go out. He can hear the beat of the music from down the street and is eager to attend, but he knows his mother will likely tell him to ask his father for permission instead. The lyrics capture the frustration and impatience of adolescence, along with the tension that can arise between parents and their children.

The repetitive nature of the song allows for the focus to be on the emotions rather than the lyrics themselves. The words "Say Mama don't you look that way / Cause I know what you going to say / Well a Mama don't get mad / Your going to say go ask your Dad" are repeated throughout the song while the repeated "whoaaaaa" emphasizes the urgency of the situation. Little Richard's energetic and raspy voice emphasizes the desperation of wanting to go to the record party.

@Ronald James no harm done, and I totally agree with you on the 3 you mentioned, even though I tend to put Elvis in that category too because of the revolution he initiated

Ronald James

@Gabriel paino Hi there.
All I can think of is that I must have been drunk when I posted this.
It looks like something I would post on an Elvis video.
For me there is always the trinity of Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis when it comes to Rock 'n' Roll.
I will remove my previous post, as it is stupid !
Have a good day, Gabriel !

Gabriel paino

@Ronald James so who’s the king of Rock and Roll for you ? Just asking
