Kansas City / Hey Hey Hey Hey
Little Richard Lyrics

Goin' to, Kansas city
Gonna get my baby one time, hey, hey
Yes, Kansas City
Gonna get my baby one time, hey, hey
It's just a one-two-three-four-five-six-seven-eight-nine

Yes, Kansas City
Gonna bring my baby back home, yea, hey
Kansas City, gonna bring my baby back home
Hey, hey, a long-long time since my baby been gone

Hey-hey-hey-hey (hey-hey-hey-hey)
Hey, baby (hey, baby)
Hey, child (hey, child)
Hey, now (hey, now)
Yes, tell me baby, what's been wrong with you, hey, hey?

Hey-hey-hey-hey (hey-hey-hey-hey)
Hey, baby (hey, baby)
Hey, child (hey, child)
Hey, now (hey, now)
Yes, tell me baby, what's been wrong with you, hey, hey?

Well bye, bye-bye, baby, bye
Woo, so long, bye-bye, baby, I'm gone
Well bye, bye-bye, baby, bye

Hey-hey-hey-hey (hey-hey-hey-hey)
Hey, baby (hey, baby)
Hey, child (hey, child)
Hey, now (hey, now)
Yes, tell me baby, what's been wrong with you, hey, hey?

This is great. The reason the Beatle version sounds better to a lot of people (me included) is the same reason that their versions of Roll Over Beethoven and other covers sound better: they had the advantage of a few years' progress in the art of rock and roll. Little Richard's version is just a swing-band with a rock n roll singer. The Beatles have a full-on driving rock n roll band (with a rock n roll singer). They also have the electric bass and a 4-beat rhythm instead of the 2-beat thump-a-thump-a thing that Richard has, so the Beatle version knocks you over with more power and drive.

It really what you hear first will leave a lasting impression on your opinion of a song. If you grew up listing to Rhythm and Blues of the of the 40s and 50s the you would things Beatles version is just a louder and not as good vocal performance as the Little Richard’s version.

Roll Over Beethoven is a Chuck Berry song with a rock n roll band behind it, he’s playing lead guitar, what George plays on the cover. But yea ur right on everything else

R.I.P. Richard I. Penniman. The I stands for "I made rock and roll great!"

Jesse Sprague

Not made it great, made it period.

Beau Menard

the original's definitely more swingin', but i'll always prefer paul's rendition. :)

I like Little Richard (a lot!) but The Beatles' version of this (done in one take, live in the studio) is, in my opinion, much better.
