Little Talks
Little Talks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Got my Ray-Bans on every day and night
Got a one-track mind that I wanna hide
Got an easy job that I try to keep
Got a bunch of girls and I got 'em cheap
Got a million things that I wanna do
But I waste my time hangin' out with you

It's not because I'm really easy to please
It's not the way you bring me down on my knees
It's just a feeling but it keeps coming back
It's a tiny little heart attack

Got a big guitar lookin' dynamite
GOt a Thunderbird that I drive all night
Got a shoeshine-boy workin' overtime
Gotta grow up soon but I never mind
Got a big fat guy takin' all the blame
For the chairs I break when you call my name

It's not because I'm really easy to please
It's not the way you bring me down on my knees
It's just a feeling but it keeps coming back
It's a tiny little heart attack
Just a tiny little heart attack

Got a snake-skin suit that I really like
Lookin' like the devil on a Friday night
Got a shark outside in the swimming pool
But it won't be trouble if you're stayin' cool
Got my mind made up that I'm leaving you
But it won't be easy no it won't be true

I'll never make it through a Saturday night
I'll never make another move in the light
'Cause if I see you and you're lookin' like that
I'll get a tiny little heart attack

It's not because I'm really easy to please
It's not the way you bring me down on my knees
It's just a feeling but it keeps coming back
It's a tiny little heart attack

Give me a tiny little heart attack
I want a tiny little heart attack

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and Men are about a person who is torn between their desire to move on with their life and the strong emotional attachment they have to someone they know they should leave behind. The first verse describes the person's situation, with their one-track mind and easy job representing an unsatisfying life that they want to change. However, they waste their time with the person they are talking to instead of making changes. The chorus describes the feeling that this person has- a tiny little heart attack- which is a metaphor for the intense emotions they feel when they think about leaving the person they care about.

The second verse describes the person's material possessions- their guitar, car, and suit- and their carefree attitude towards life. They have a shoeshine-boy working overtime, indicating that they are living a lavish lifestyle at the expense of others. Despite their desire to move on from their current situation, they can't seem to break away from the person they are talking to. The final chorus reiterates their intense emotions every time they see the person, causing them to have a tiny little heart attack.

Overall, the song depicts the struggle of wanting to move on from a situation but being unable to let go of the emotions that come with it. It is a powerful reflection on the complexities of human relationships and the emotions that come with them.

For those who like to sing along:

“I don't like walking around this old and empty house
So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear
The stairs creak as you sleep
It's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyes
And some days I can't even dress myself
It's killing me to see you this way
'Cause though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
There's an old voice in my head
That's holding me back
Well, tell her that I miss our little talks
Soon it will be over and buried with our past
We used to play outside when we were young
And full of life and full of love
Some days I don't know if I am wrong or right
Your mind is playing tricks on you, my dear
'Cause though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
Don't listen to a word I say
(Hey)
The screams all sound the same
(Hey)
And though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
You're gone, gone, gone away
I watched you disappear
All that's left is a ghost of you
Now we're torn, torn, torn apart
There's nothing we can do
Just let me go, we'll meet again soon
Now wait, wait, wait for me, please hang around
I'll see you when I fall asleep
Don't listen to a word I say
(Hey)
The screams all sound the same
(Hey)
Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
Don't listen to a word I say
(Hey)
The screams all sound the same
(Hey)
Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore”

True story. First time I heard this song I was working at a goodwill store. I wrote down "we're torn torn torn apart" quickly so I could look up this song after work. I got the meaning the first time I heard it (my moms a widow, the vibes are obvious and sad) and had to hear it again. Here I am several years later still loving this song.

i hope those were tears of happiness :)
