Libertine
Liv Kristine Lyrics

Cause you don’t impress me, you see
The ice is getting thin
Time to turn around and go home
I won’t fight this war for you
All I do is passing through in your life
I tell you it’s over tonight
Libertine, you are like stardust in the rain
Illusion fades
You’re just one shadow in this game
Libertine, you think you’re free
But your heart is chained
It’s just an illusion
A pale illusion of what life really is
I don’t need your bliss
Cause it’s not shiny
The nights are getting colder
When you’re alone
When you’re older
The lyrics of Liv Kristine's song "Libertine" convey a sense of disillusionment and disappointment towards someone who is not who they appear to be. The singer rejects the lies and illusions created by this person, who she refers to as a libertine. She realizes that the relationship is not genuine nor fulfilling and decides to cut it off. The ice getting thin can be interpreted as the end of the relationship, with the person being told to go home. The singer refuses to fight the other person's problems for them and that their time and connection was fleeting.
Describing her as stardust in the rain, the singer emphasizes the fleeting and temporal nature of their relationship. The character of the libertine is painted as one who believes they are free, but in reality, they are chained by their own illusions. The singer seemingly is suggesting that true freedom comes from being honest with oneself and not deceiving others. The song speaks to the importance of authenticity in relationships, and also to embrace realistic expectations of people, oneself and life.
