Overall Meaning

The above lyrics are from the song Departure by Living Sacrifice. The song talks about a traumatic experience of betrayal that altered the singer's state of mind induced by terror. The memories related to this betrayal are dissociated and provoke a trapped anguish which result in fear even decades later. The singer talks about the most profound betrayal and painful revelation that he had to face which has been repressed and placed out of consciousness.

The lyrics urge the readers to cease entanglement from future abuse and instead embark on a search walk in forgiveness. It means that one should not allow the past traumatic experience to hold them captive and instead should work towards breaking free from it by forgiving themselves and others. Forgiveness is not an easy task, but by doing so, one can avoid getting into similar situations in the future and move on with life.

I still don't know to this day if LS ever had a name for the 'nameless?' instrumental that ends this record. It is kind of neat how they subdivided this last track on Inhabit, half + half as departure- really ends halfway about 3:35 or so.

The cool thing about it too was the whole bringing the acoustic into the extreme metal. It hadn't been done much before- if at all outside of Unleashed's Across the Open Sea that I remember...

Instrumentals serve their purpose, and they're great teaching tools as well.

‘Most profound betrayal, most painful revelation’... I find comfort and understanding in the instruments singing about suicide from when the wind blows to the end ...

I had them tattooed on the back of my neck at 17 years old... now I’m 44 and still head banging to this album... always had a deep understanding of where their at mentally and the music is like ‘dark Christian death metal’ to me. RIP my dead friends who committed suicide... see you on the other side......

@MournfulMystic

listened to this alot in 94/95... the 2nd part is especially impacting & it is an instrumental in memory of the suicide of a friend of one of the band members.

I don't know who he was- I do know 3x3 we carried your body was for him as well... from what I have read...
Thanks for sharing.
Around a coffin- generally is 6 pallbearers- sometimes 8... of 2 honorarys... in a funeral- mass...

Stands among the best of early thrash/death metal bands. And personally, for this era, I don't know of any singer that ever managed to sound as "burly" as DJ. And that doesn't count for any kind of "scene points" or anything. He simply just had a style that was his own, for the time. Totally unmatched. This album is crazy.
