Broken words fill my mouth 'cause I never said goodbye
But what does it matter, who really cares
In this river of faces, in this new windy place
I will lose all your traces, I'll go and find another angel
One more word and I would have followed you
But what does it matter, who really cares
In this river of faces, in this new windy place
I will lose all your traces, I'll go and find another
No one can stop me, I'm gonna run till I get free
'Cause I can wait until you're gone from me, hmm
So what does it matter, who really cares
In this river of faces, in this new windy place
I will lose all your traces, I'll go and find another angel
Hmmm, another angel
The lyrics for Lizz Wright's "Another Angel" convey a sense of heartbreak and loss that the singer is trying to move on from. The first two lines "Your love is eternal, I never should have touched you/Broken words fill my mouth 'cause I never said goodbye" suggest that the love was too strong and too pure to have been disturbed. The singer reflects on this loss and feels that although their love may have been eternal, their connection was abrupt and incomplete.
The next few lines "But what does it matter, who really cares/In this river of faces, in this new windy place/I will lose all your traces, I'll go and find another angel" reflect the singer's desire to move on and find another love. The singer feels that they can't dwell on this loss and must move forward in life, as they are caught in the flowing river of time with so many other people around them. The reference to finding another angel suggests that the singer is hoping to find another pure and undisturbed love.
As the song continues, the singer reflects on how close they were to following their love, but decided not to. The lines "One more word and I would have followed you/From behind my silent door I've been waiting, ready to go" show how close the singer feels they were to taking the next step with their love, but ultimately couldn't do it. Yet, the singer still feels that they need to move on and find a new love.
The chorus repeats, emphasizing the singer's determination to move on and find another love. The last line "Another angel" is sung with a sense of hopefulness, indicating that the singer hasn't lost their faith in love or in finding a new and pure connection.
