So near and yet so far from me
And here am I on a night in June
Reaching for the moon and you
I wonder if we'll ever meet
My song of love is incomplete
I'm just the words, looking for the tune
I'm just the words, looking for the tune
Reaching for the moon and you
The lyrics of Lizz Wright's Reaching For The Moon are a poignant and soulful reflection of the way distance can create a sense of intense yearning in the human heart. The moon functions as a metaphor for the beloved, someone who seems close and yet impossibly far away, and the singer is left reaching out towards this distant object in the hope that somehow she might be able to connect with it. The imagery of the moon and the night sky creates a sense of wonder and awe, underscoring the depth of the singer's emotions and the intensity of her desire.
Throughout the song, the lyrics are both wistful and hopeful. The singer wonders if she will ever be able to meet her beloved, and while her "song of love" may be incomplete, she remains committed to reaching out and trying to make that connection. The repeated phrase "reaching for the moon and you" captures the sense of striving and longing that lies at the heart of the song, while the final lines, "I'm just the words, looking for the tune / reaching for the moon and you" suggest a sense of incompleteness and searching that feels both painful and beautiful.
