I am so proud of these women for standing up for themselves and not hiding behind lawyer statements because this really shines light on many workplace issues and how people view it as they go through it, because it doesn't have to be so overt to be hostile. Who knows what Lizzo really stands for. Performers do and say what they have to, to make it. Lizzo is a character, put on for the cameras and fans. Like any performer. Lizzo can be all positivity and progressive for the spotlight, and filled with self loathing and believe none of it in the shadows. Miley Cyrus was asked why there was such a difference in how she acted and dressed in private to what we see on stage. She responded that her stage personality is not her, its a character (paraphrasing). SO many examples of people being the opposite of what is seen in public. Rolfe Harris died without fanfare May 2023, once a much beloved talented artist, entertainer, comedian, children's entertainer, charged and convicted and imprisoned for more than 12 counts of indecent assault against girls between 14 and 16 years of age. More than likely, her attorney will put a motion in for dismissal. This would be predicated on the case not having any merit. In other words, she did not do anything wrong. However, if that motion is denied because there appears to be basis for the lawsuit, that’s when the pain and drama begins. Those sympatric looking souls (the plaintiffs) get to sit on the stand and tell their sad stories about what “abuse” happen them all while they were at the mercy of Lizzo’s employees/staff. Although situations/stories may be embellished, and Lizzo may win, her image may take a hit that cost her far more than what it takes to make them go away. The plus-size darlin of the entertainment world may become the fat, controlling, cruel, monster. In short, she’s can become a victim of circumstances. Get rid of them. Look it all depends on how she advertised to the dancers to get them to come to the audition how she marketed to those dancers and what she said in that ad or addition announcement is going to be totally different from her marketing tactic for selling her music. If she said I want plus size women and I'm body positive and all sizes are welcome and actually printed that on the addition casting call, then they have a case because that's false advertisement. He doesn't matter who she is on stage or to her fans, it matters who she said she was as a potential employer.

Agreed. Its also important to note what exactly was expected of them BEFORE employment and what was written in their contracts. For example, if she had written in the contract that performers would be required to accompany Lizzo to adult shows or parties where they would be expected to participate or engage in certain behaviors, then they have the opportunity PRIOR to employment to decline a contract. If there was a bait and switch situation where the dancers were never told this but then held to those standards after the fact then they absolutely have a case. Then as you said, it's apparent Lizzo and her team mis represented themselves as employers. Hopefully these girls have evidence vis-a-vis a contract or other employment guidelines that they can refer back to regarding what was expected of them.

That kind of stuff isn't going to be listed in the contract because it was a spur of the moment decision based on where they are. Getting put in the situation that made them uncomfortable is so common. I don't think you understand, you become part of the entourage and you're expected to go where the artist wants to go. I don't think that not wanting to participate or wanting to stay behind or not engage should've been something that is a fireable offense because that isn't even part of a contract there's nothing in any contract that is said about after parties. I do think that their comfort level with whatever activity should be respected and they should have the option to not engage if they don't want to. I don't think they should face disciplinary action for it but a lot of the times if you don't accept these sorts of things and just get over it they'll find a reason to get rid of you because then they think that you're judging them and start to feel insulted even if you weren't judging or trying to insult them but it wasn't your thing. The Artist wants yes people around them especially back up dancers. Their whole job is to support the artist and that isn't just on the stage. That support continues every time you're out with the artist. You are completely at the mercy of their whims.
It's just she didn't pick from a pool of already established professional dancers if she chose them specifically because they were naïve because they were they are the things that they're upset about did not shock me and did not outrage me. The fact that they're so upset I knew instantly that must've been the first professional gig. This is how our industry is. I don't know what to tell them. If they think that it'll be different with a different artist, it's going to be even worse than what they experienced with lizzo.
And I'm not even trying to be dramatic about it. I'm being totally realistic and honest.
Just because it's normal doesn't make it right and on that front I totally agree with them it isn't it right.

I’m on the fence about this. On the one hand, I understand micro aggressions and made to do things you’re not comfortable doing (I.e. touching a nude performer). On the other hand, it’s the entertainment world. There are all types of nasty things and different environments you’ll see and be in if you sign up to work with certain entertainers. They party a lot, and you either rock with them or quit.

I agree with what you said 100%, but I would like to add that perception is a fickle friend. When you start to think someone is out to "get you" you start to see everything they do or say an attack. Arianna even said that Lizo tried to talk to her, but in her mind she was trapping her into a corner. Based on what they are saying I dont see this going very far and the sad part is that instead of just quitting if you didnt like the environment, they went ahead and sued her which now will probably be held against them when trying to seek employment elsewhere as a dancer.

I think they are describing normal happenstance in these types of situations. Lizzo is like the Beyonce of big girls. I would expect she pushes them hard. Not trying to be unsympathetic but we all get a glimpse of Lizzos personality. It could be the way that she says things or whatever. Maybe she could have worded things better when addressing her concerns about weight gain and performance. Then the situation with the strippers I of course wasn't there but I can imagine a lot of drinking and partying and Lizzo yelling like "girls come touch on this!!!" L. I mean I'm not trying to play devil's advocate but I'm not really disturbed by anything they have said. When you’re under a performance contract, you’re required to maintain your weight because costumes have been built for you. I’m not saying their experience wasn’t difficult, but it’s clear that neither of them are seasoned performers who know how to negotiate the business. I’ve seen it occasionally when young performers don’t have enough experience or know themselves enough to be able to handle a professional contract. This feels like a money grab.

There is an accountability problem in The United States. This is another prime example of that. It does not matter how known or how unknown you are. When you are caught and called out for being immoral, and unethical? You should own that. And come forth. Do the responsible thing. And hold yourself accountable. Because the consequences are so much more severe by evading with deflection, avoidance, being dodgy, and cagey. People need to either start being held accountable or holding themselves accountable. With or without any consequences to think about. If you have to worry about consequences? You have already done something that warrants at the very least an apology. I think people need to own whatever they have done wrong. And apologize to the people they have done wrong. So yes. An apology might help people that might have been humiliated by another. Let alone would people ever want to have a reason to for someone to apologize to begin with. It's time for people to start humbling themselves. Step down and off of their pedestals. Meet people at their level. Face them. To really get a genuine understanding of what it's like. Before someone has enough. And the pedestals once held by the people who have had enough start to come tumbling down. In order for people;to even have faith in human decency? To believe people even have that anymore? Has anyone seen these 2 perform? Im not sure if i have, that being said i did watch a lizzo special and a few of her dancers were hard to watch. They just didnt keep up with the other dancers. Her weight gain screws with costumes. Which costs more money for lizzo. And when you're on the road that just makes it harder. Guess we will see what happens in court. I feel like everytime someone gets their feelings hurt they sue. Like she said it was their first professional job. They have NO IDEA how that business works. aside from the bananaeating incident whih they didn't even talk about I think these conditions are expected in the entertainment industry. you will be pressured to go to parties and other social events, your body and/or looks will be under a microscope. The touching the nude performer seems mild as well unless she was forced to touch their private parts. if she was forced to touch their arm idk how that qualifies as sexual harassment... overall their evidence seems flimsy at best. they need more concrete examples and evidence. if this is what they are bringing to court then it will likely get thrown out

Also Arianna seems very self conscious and maybe they picked up on this vibe and kept asking if she was ok. They hardly gave examples at all to back up their accusations. "Umm, the mabager forced her religion on us and Lizzo didn't allow dancers to drink alcohol before shows" won't even hold up in a civil case.

I’m not a fan of Lizzo, but these girls’ interviews and their accusations seem very petty. Like making the link between Lizzo saying “I was worried about you” to her weight is not provable but only assumption. Also, she says she couldn’t have gotten out of the situation because they were chanting her name…..she could have continued to say “no”. Unless there are more witnesses with stronger stories and evidence I don’t see the judge awarding these dancers with a settlement.

The Amsterdam situation where they were kinda 'forced' to go to that club could be considered harassment and discrimination. I've worked at a job where similar stuff happened where I felt coerced to do stuff and was ostracized if I didn't, or if I said I didn't want to participate was left out of future work related conversations. It's a sh*tty feeling. It's one of those situations where some won't understand unless they've been there. The problem these ladies will have is Lizzie or whoever arranged that club 'party' can always say attendance was NOT mandatory and no she wasn't required to touch that n@ked man at the club. So unless they have text messages or proof saying attendance was mandatory they might have a hard time proving that allegation. But I totally believe her when she said the manager kept "checking on her" to make sure she was ok. They have a problem with you but they never come out right and say it. And then you're fired. But she will have a hard time proving she was fired because she gained weight.

There are a lot of people that will do anything for a dollar and I don’t believe these allegations. I notice a lot of people are coming forward for the sake of self gratification because they were not a good fit for a particular establishment. Lizzo, and many other women like her are business women. Dancers need to investigate the climate prior to the hiring process, especially if they have particular religious practices and or beliefs that may be grazed while at work.
