Llorca is Ludovic Llorca (born in 1974), the resident "soulman" of acclaimed French label F Communications, the successful company which has introduced the world to the likes of (label co-founder and techno producer) Laurent Garnier and the forward-thinking jazz of St. Germain (now signed to the legendary Blue Note label). Since signing with the label in 1997 on the strength of an unsolicited demo, Llorca has gone on to become a strong artist for F Communications.
The Novel Sound
Llorca Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We must know that it was a novel sound.
As we gather here to mourn the passing of this novel sound,
We should take the pains to remember something.
There are some of us,
Who do not accept the dreams of dragons as their own,
No matter how grand those dragons might say they are.
Yes there are some, who refuse to drop the candle,
There is, you must recall, the kind of serious study,
That will give you confidence to strike you match to the mighty wick,
Which will illuminate yet another portion of the darkness.
You must be willing to accept that the pain,
Is a part of the process of revelation.
You must be willing to take the field and stay on the field,
The way duke stayed on the road.
Out there somewhere, are the kind of people,
Who do not accept the premature autopsy of a novel art form.
These are the ones who follow in the footsteps of the gifted,
And the disciplined who have been hurt but not discouraged.
Who have been frightened,
But who have not forgotten how to be brave.
Who revel in the company of their friends and sweethearts,
But who are willing to face the loneliness that is demanded of masters.
The lyrics of Llorca's song The Novel Sound speak to the importance of not accepting the demise of novel art forms without resistance. The song begins with the acknowledgement of mourning, but a reminder that what has passed was a novel sound. It is clear that the singer of the song recognizes the importance of not giving up on such unique and innovative works that can transcend the ordinary. The idea of taking the pains to remember is an encouragement to fully honor what has passed, but also to remember the importance of what was lost.
The lyrical content is then transformed to a discussion of perseverance, as the singer describes those who will not accept the defeat of a novel art form. These individuals refuse to let their dreams be quashed, even in the face of adversity. Through the example of the duke staying on the road and the importance of fielding the difficulties of the process of revelation, the singer emphasizes that the pain of the struggle is worth it. The song ends with an assertion that there are people who will continue in the footsteps of the gifted and disciplined, who remain brave and willing to face the loneliness that is demanded of masters. Overall, the message is one of perseverance, resilience and not accepting defeat for unique and transformative ideas.
