Affectionately known as the "B-team," Lance & Tony went on to pen songs for Alexander O'Neal, New Edition, and other artists that came to Flyte Tyme looking for songs. After solidifying their place in the studio as up & coming producers and songwriters, the ambitious pair put together the Lo-Key project. The first album "Where Dey At?" was named after a dig at a Jamaican studio owner who signed Lance to a 'slave' contract before his Flyte Tyme deal and owed him money and kept his Masters. Although amongst music circles the group was lauded, Lo-Key never reached Platinum or Gold status, due to corporate restructuring and political maneuvering at A&M records. Performances were kept at a minimum, due to the grooming of Lance & Tony as producers. After the sale of the Perspective imprint, Tony became A&R for a while at the new Flyte Tyme Records, and Lance went on to form his own label, "Baby Honey Records", with music promoter B-Rich, which is based out of Atlanta, as well as the Baby Honey Recording studio. The only group signed to Baby Honey Records was V.I.P., a trio vocal group from Minneapolis. The rest of Lo-Key disbanded.
Lance Alexander discovered the R&B group 'Next' while working as a staff writer at Flyte Tyme Productions. Initially, the pair brought the group, who was known at the time as 'Straight 4ward,' into the Flyte Tyme studios to cut demos and after pitching the group to Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, the Producers passed on the project. After performing at an annual black music seminar in Minneapolis, Naughty by Nature's DJ Kay Gee discovered the group and signed them to a recording contract. Lance wrote the B-side "Butta Love" to the million selling single "Too Close". The group was renamed Next. Lo-Key was influenced heavily by Con Funk shun, and also by old school R&B acts.

Two wrongs dont make a right right
But I'll lay your ass down
To go night night
Void prays and nightmares
Is what life like
Not for me but for you
I gotta an alibi
I got a pocket full of OG
Fuck the judge and the police
Let it burn
Let it burn
Ain't a cell that can hold
I got a pocket full of OG
Fuck the judge and the police
Let it burn
Let it burn
What would hell be without me
I see the world for what it truly is
Dirt in the water
The holy gril
For the truly frel
Well
I guess lies still sell
Cause we all live in hell
Just to wined up in jail
Yea yea
But thats for bitches ima real nigga
Except the consequence
To lat to make a deal nigga
Knowing that and living with it
Make a real nigga
But being a real nigga
Fucking get you killed nigga
Yea yea
It's the same shit just a different day
So ima do the same shit I did yesterday
Say fuck the money
But still go after what pays
And bully niggas like pussy
I call it practice
I know treat fuck boys
Like an actress
They aint good for nothing
But a dirty mattress
Twisting up to clam my nerves
Cause you gone get what you deserve
I'll put a spell on you
L on you L on you
I got a pocket full of OG
Fuck the judge and the police
Let it burn
Let it burn
Ain't a cell that can hold
I got a pocket full of OG
Fuck the judge and the police
Let it burn
Let it burn
What would hell be without me
Mind over matter
Unless ur opinion matter
With that being said
Im claiming to be the baddest
Fuck ur status
I dont feel it in my apparatus
Lookin back at it
My pen stroke is gangsta
Listening to fifty
Aint fucking round with you wanksta's
Bullets for my problem
And money is over everything
I never kill no body
But that aint everything
And fuck my file
Cuz that shit dont tell you everything
Hold up im smokey
You niggas care bears
Im probable cause
You niggas fair share
Forget about
Momma still taking shit about it
I try to tell em
I probably wouldnt be shit with out it
Yea yea
But who can see it how i see it doe
I guess im rocko
No modern life doe
Im buzz like light year
They dared me to spend my life
Im da man now
Fuck you and ur plan now
I got a pocket full of OG
Fuck the judge and the police
Let it burn
Let it burn
Ain't a cell that can hold
I got a pocket full of OG
Fuck the judge and the police
Let it burn
Let it burn
What would hell be without me
The lyrics of Lo-Key's song "Let It Bump" can be interpreted as an expression of defiance and self-confidence. The artist starts by comparing himself to the iconic character Johnny Blaze, who is known for his fiery spirit, implying that he too possesses a powerful presence. The line "No ghost ride but I'm close now" suggests that while he may not be following the conventional path, he is still making a significant impact.
The line "Time tics times six, lost in da mix doe" indicates that the artist feels caught up in the fast-paced nature of life, possibly leading to a sense of confusion or being overwhelmed. However, he remains confident in his abilities, expressing the desire for a strong partner who will not tolerate any mistreatment and is willing to go to extreme measures, symbolized by "a take a hostage."
Lo-Key disregards mainstream radio airplay, stating "Bump my own shit fuck the radio." This could imply a rejection of conformity and a commitment to staying true to his own style. He also mentions having both backwoods and papers, referring to different ways of smoking marijuana, suggesting a laid-back, carefree mindset.
The artist emphasizes his association with a community that values high-quality marijuana, stating "I'm from where you can smell loud." He then references biblical figures like Moses and David to evoke a sense of power and awe, suggesting that he has the ability to command attention and respect in his environment.
The artist acknowledges that two wrongs don't make a right, but asserts that he is willing to take action to ensure his own safety, "I'll lay your ass down to go night night." He dismisses the idea of living a life filled with prayers and nightmares, suggesting that his reality is different, but implying that others may not be as fortunate.
Lo-Key expresses his disregard for authority figures such as judges and the police and proclaims his independence with the repeated line, "I got a pocket full of OG, fuck the judge and the police, let it burn." This can be interpreted as a rebellious attitude, refusing to conform to societal expectations.
In the final verse, the artist claims to possess a deep understanding of the world's true nature, describing it as "Dirt in the water, the holy grail." He seems to suggest that while lies may prevail and people may end up in negative situations, he acknowledges this reality and is unafraid to face it. The lyrics also touch on his determination to pursue financial success while also asserting superiority over others he considers weak or insignificant.
Overall, the lyrics of "Let It Bump" showcase a self-assured and defiant attitude, with Lo-Key asserting his independence and rejecting societal norms. The song's lyrics seem to revel in a sense of rebellion and a desire to be seen as powerful and untouchable.
