I Love Death
Lodger Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Waking ten times to take a piss
You can taste the cancer in my morning kiss
Scratch the rash on my back it's perfect bliss
You want a life companion and you're getting this

Man, can get a few dimes
And man can get it a few times
Man, can get a few dimes
And man can get it a few times

You have to look away of every meal
Inconvenient but that's the deal
This it what, we become when nothing's real
Mental wounds that never heal

Man, can get a few dimes
And man can get it a few times
Man, can get a few dimes
And man can get it a few times

Man, can get a few dimes
And man can get it a few times

Man, can get a few dimes
And man can get it a few times

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lodger's song "I Love Death" are dark and unsettling, painting a vivid picture of a person who is on the brink of death and has become quite apathetic towards life. The opening lines suggest that the person is old and diseased, waking up at night to urinate, and the smell or taste of death is present in his/her morning kiss. The next line, "scratch the rash on my back, it's perfect bliss" creates an impression that this person experiences pleasure in pain, and physical discomfort is now the norm. The final line of the stanza takes a dark turn, revealing that an individual in such a state is likely to be alone and unwanted, but now someone desires such a partner.

The chorus of the song, "Man, can get a few dimes and man can get it a few times" could be interpreted in different ways. It can either mean that a person can live simply and cheaply in this world or that they can indulge in physical pleasures as they please. But the repeated phrase seems to indicate a sense of futility, as if there is no real meaning to life, and everything we do is just a temporary pleasure.

The final stanza highlights the theme of apathy and resignation to an unfulfilling life. The phrase "You have to look away of every meal" suggests a loss of appetite or disgust towards food, often symptomatic of depression. The next line "Inconvenient but that's the deal" indicates a dismissive attitude towards something that should ordinarily be pleasurable. The final lines are the most damning with "Mental wounds that never heal." representing the emotional and psychological damage that living in such deprivation and despair can cause.

Their music just has such a down to earth, hungover on a tuseday morning kinda feeling I cant find anywhere else.

First I ever saw of them was WAY back in the early 2000's on old starcraft battle.net, in somebody's bio. It was 24 hour candy machine!
