Lokua Kanza was born Pascal Lokua Kanza in 1958 in Bukavu, in the province of Kivu, in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is the eldest of eight children, with a Mongo father and a Tutsi mother from Rwanda. In 1964, the family went to live in Kinshasa (Congo's capital) in a middle class area, until the day when Pascal's father, a ship's captain, died. His mother then moved to a much poorer area of the city, and Lokua, the eldest, had to work to feed the family. He therefore went to school part time, and took odd jobs, as well as singing in churches. Lokua Kanza sings in French, Lingala, and English.

Tango oza na bomoy

Na ku penda
Mu me zola nge
Famille na lingi bino

Kozela te bakoma na bokono oooh
Po olakisa lolango na yo
Kozela te bawa aah
Sima otanda wolo na lilita aaah
Yango wana lelo ooh
Yebisa bango boye
Njimukananga bikola be

Famille na lingi bino
Tango yangoyo ya kolakisa lolango
Kozela te bakende na paradiso
Kozela te ba bunga na lifelo ooh
Tango oza na bomoy lakisa, yebisa lolango na yo ooh

Njimukananga bikola be
Na ku penda
Mu me zola nge
Famille na lingi bino
The song "Famille" by Lokua Kanza explores the importance of family and the need for people to always come together and support each other. The song starts with the repetitive "yeiiih yeeh yeiiih yeiiiih" which creates a calm and serene mood for the song. The first verse talks about how life can be tough sometimes, but having family around always makes it easier. The lyrics state "Tango oza na bomoy, tango makasi eza na nzoto" which means "When you have a heavy heart, when the burden is heavy on your shoulders" and continues to say "Yebisa famille te olingaka bango liboso bawa, yebisa ba oyo okumisaka eeh" which translates to "Tell your family you don't like to see them suffer, tell those who make them suffer."
In the chorus, the lyrics emphasize the idea of not wanting to lose your family and always wanting to be close to them. The lines "Kozela te ba kufa ooh, na sima oya kotanda mosolo" means "Don't let them die, let them rest in peace" and "kozela te ba koma na bokono ooh, lakisa lolango na yo ooh" means "Don't let them go far away, keep them close to you." The second verse describes how families should always be there to support each other during difficult times. The lines "Lakisa bango motindo kani, yo olingaka bango ooh" means "Encourage them, they need your love" and "yo olelaka motema eeeeh, Baye o betelaka tolo oooh" means "They need you to touch their heart, let them find peace."
The song ends with a repetition of the chorus and a final verse that speaks again about the need to come together and support each other as a family. The lines "Tango yangoyo ya kolakisa lolango, kozela te bakende na paradiso" means "When the night falls and you feel lonely, don't go to paradise" and "kozela te ba bunga na lifelo ooh, tango oza na bomoy lakisa, yebisa lolango na yo ooh" means "Don't leave them behind in life, when you have a heavy heart, touch their heart and tell them that you love them."
Overall, "Famille" is a powerful and emotional song that highlights the importance of family and loved ones in our lives. It encourages listeners to cherish their families and to always be there for them during difficult times.
