In her native town of Rosario, Sinaloa, Beltrán completed her secretarial studies while she participated in many singing competitions. She then moved to Mexico City where she was discovered while working at the radio station XEW, and never went back to Rosario again.
She married Alfredo Leal, a matador and film actor, and with him had two children: María Elena Leal, who is also a singer, and José Leal. She entered the world of film in 1954 starring in El tesoro de la muerte. After participating in dozens of films, most of them musicals, she obtained a role in the telenovela Mi rival with Saby Kamalich. In 1976 and 1984 she hosted the musical shows Noches tapatías and El estudio de Lola Beltrán respectively.
Beltrán is still considered with Lucha Reyes the most successful ranchera-music singer of all time. She was the first ranchera singer to perform at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. She also performed at the Olympia music hall in Paris, the Tchaikovsky Hall of Moscow and the Conservatory of Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) in the former Soviet Union.
Soon after recording Disco del Siglo with Lucha Villa and Amalia Mendoza "La Tariácuri" (produced by Juan Gabriel) she died of a massive pulmonary embolism at the Ángeles hospital of Mexico City.

Tres días llorando tu amor
Tres días que miro el amanecer
No más tres días yo te amé
Y en tu mirar me perdí
Y hace tres días que no sé de ti
¿Con quién me engañas?
¿Dónde. dónde estás?
¿Qué estás haciendo?
Tres días que no sé
Que es alimento
Sólo tomando
Me he podido consolar
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay
Tu amor me va a matar
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay
Yo qué voy a hacer
Si me niegas, alma mía
Tu querer
In Lola Beltrán's song "Tres Dias," the singer expresses her feelings of love and longing for a woman who has left her. The song begins with the line "Tres días sin verte mujer" (Three days without seeing you, woman), which establishes the length of time since the singer has been with the person she loves. She then laments "Tres días llorando tu amor" (Three days crying for your love) and "Tres días que miro el amanecer" (Three days watching the sunrise), indicating the depth of her despair and how every moment feels elongated without the presence of her lover.
The singer then declares "No más tres días yo te amé" (I loved you for just three days), which implies that their relationship was short-lived but intense. She admits that she got lost in her lover's gaze and now has not heard from her for three days. The singer is tormented by the uncertainty of her lover's whereabouts and asks, "¿Dónde, dónde estás?" (Where, where are you?) and "¿Con quién me engañas?" (With whom are you deceiving me?). She reveals her desperation and feelings of abandonment as she wonders why her lover has left her alone and yearns for her return.
In the chorus, the singer repeats the phrase "Tres días que no sé" (Three days that I don't know), emphasizing her confusion and the overwhelming emotions she is experiencing. She admits that she cannot eat and can only find solace in drinking. The song's final lines highlight the singer's desperation and vulnerability as she cries out "Tu amor me va a matar" (Your love is going to kill me) and "Yo qué voy a hacer, si me niegas, alma mía, tu querer" (What am I going to do if you deny me, my soul, your love).
Overall, "Tres Dias" is a heartfelt song that captures the intensity of a brief but passionate love affair and the pain of losing that love. It speaks to the universal themes of love, loss, and longing that resonate with listeners across cultures and generations.
