sirens
Lola Marsh Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sentimental one without any story
Your pages are full, your age is a lie
Tall and funny soul your daydream ain't over
Portray the land, behold your crown

Hear the sirens calling
Old and merry tune while the sailor's falling
Last chance to rise don't worry
Need a lullaby to restore your glory
To restore your glory

Foreign creature your gift is a burden
You were born for the stars, it has shown in your cards
Frightened being you better run but slowly
Heir to the throne with patience alone

In a million years it'll all be over
In a million years it'll all be over
Till then

Hear the sirens calling
Old and merry tune while the sailor's falling
Last chance to rise don't worry
Need a lullaby to restore your glory
Hear the sirens calling
Old and merry tune while the sailor's falling
Last chance to rise don't worry

Need a lullaby to restore your glory
To restore your glory

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lola Marsh's "Sirens" suggest a story of a person who seems to have it all together but is actually lost and unsure of their path. The first few lines indicate that this individual is very sentimental but lacks a story to go with it. The person's pages are full, but their age is a lie, suggesting that they have lived a lot but not necessarily experienced a lot. The next lines describe a person who is tall and funny, with a soul full of daydreams, suggesting that they have a creative spirit. They are urged to "portray the land" and "behold your crown," indicating that they have the potential to be a leader or artist, but they need to have the confidence to pursue their dreams.

The chorus of the song "Hear the sirens calling, Old and merry tune while the sailor's falling" seems to be a metaphor for the person's inner struggle. They are being called to rise and restore their glory, but it's not going to be an easy journey. The second verse describes this person as a "foreign creature," suggesting that they don't quite fit in or belong. They have been dealt a certain hand of cards and were born for the stars, but they are overwhelmed and fearful of their destiny. The last line of the verse indicates that they are "heir to the throne with patience alone," meaning that they have the potential to be great if they can just be patient and overcome their fears.

Overall, the song Sirens is a beautiful call to action for anyone who has struggled with their identity, purpose, or creative ambition. It urges the listener to rise to their potential and restore their glory, even if that journey is difficult or scary. It's an inspiring message that encourages us to push past our fears and pursue our dreams, no matter how daunting they may seem.

Usually I'm not into stuff on mainstream radio, but when I heard Sirens for the first time, I had to find out what it was.
While hearing this outstanding song, I'm picturing heroic western scenes in my head.
Great composition and a voice that I wanna dive in, just like into a giant cup of hot chocolate.
10/10 Lolas 🤘
