Catch Me On The Rebound
Loleatta Holloway Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Catch me
Catch me
On the rebound, baby
You′ll have to catch me
Catch me
On the rebound
I don't like what′s going down
I told you to stop that running around

Said you went out with the boys
To the game yesterday
I've been keeping up on the score
And the team didn't play

You′re falling out of love with me
But boy, can′t you see
I'm the referee
Watch out for the wall
You′re headed for the fall

You'll have to catch me
You′ll have to catch me
On the rebound, baby
You'll have to catch me
Catch me
On the rеbound
I don′t like what's going down
I told you to stop that running around

When you play around with my heart
Thеre's a penalty you′ll see
That use the judges would score
In favor of me

I think you′re trying to make a double play
But baby with me
It ain't that way

I play it by the rules
See, I′m nobody's fool

Overall Meaning

In Loleatta Holloway's song "Catch Me On the Rebound," the singer addresses her partner who she suspects is cheating on her. The lyrics suggest that the relationship is falling apart and the partner is not paying enough attention to the singer. She warns him that she won't stand for this behavior and that he will have to catch her on the rebound. She tells the partner that he's falling out of love with her and needs to stop running around with other women. The singer makes a sports analogy by saying that she's the referee in their relationship and he's headed for a fall.

The song continues by juxtaposing sports and love, suggesting that when the partner plays around with her heart, there will be a penalty in their relationship. The singer tells him that she's not interested in his double play antics and that she plays by the rules. The lyrics of the song suggest that the singer is a strong and assertive woman who won't tolerate her partner's bad behavior.

Overall, "Catch Me On the Rebound" is a song about a relationship that is falling apart because of infidelity, but the singer is determined to catch herself before she falls and moves on from the relationship.

I guess I will have to chime in here. I just finished the Salsoul Sound Of Tom Moulton box set coming out this spring and Catch Me On The Rebound is Jimmie Williams. I remix it about 7 months ago and being a big Fan of Ronnie Baker and also my good Friend Jimmie Williams they play different styles. Jimmie is more on the Funky side and he played on a lot of the Salsoul tracks and of course he is most famous for Ain't No stopping Us Now.
