From their Facebook page,
"While Loma Prieta’s sound is difficult to describe, it is clear that they come from the rich tradition of creative Bay Area hardcore bands such as Mohinder, Funeral Diner, Bread and Circuits, Yaphet Kotto, and Indian Summer. Eschewing sub-genres in favor of organically writing songs that are personally fulfilling, each Loma Prieta record is substantially different from the last. Nonetheless, Loma Prieta have managed to forge a distinctive form of expression that is entirely their own."

Worn Path
Loma Prieta Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
can step the past edge
but cannot carry the barrier, the pestilence
We're to close to this
to rise and fall
like waves at sea
closed cities
a set aside shipwreck
olive tree
devotion to rescue
abandon the close chase
when you reach the shallows
sick fucks
sick cities
coronary
pandemic
species
my hometown merriam webster's says
"skoal" means
"a toast to your health"
look it up
last sentence,
an idea so vast you can't find the words
the core was at the center all this time
do something with the days,
the insurmountable
run around
at its source
the need dependence
a seahorse titleist's rise and fall like waves at sea
The lyrics of "Worn Path" by Loma Prieta are cryptic yet profound. The first stanza reads, "The well-worn path/can step the past edge/but cannot carry the barrier, the pestilence". The "well-worn path" could represent the patterns or habits that one has developed over time. These ways of being might have helped someone to navigate their past, but they cannot shield them from obstacles or plagues like "the barrier" or "the pestilence". The next lines may be a commentary on the human condition in general. No matter how much we evolve, we can't escape the ups and downs of life - just like "waves at sea".
The second stanza talks about "closed cities" and "sincerity". It could be interpreted that "closed cities" mean places that are shut off from the outside world, where people are trapped in their own truths. "Sincerity" here represents people who are trying to be genuine in a world that seems fake. The line "a set aside shipwreck olive tree" could be a metaphor for something that was once abandoned but still bears fruit. The next few lines feel like a call to action - urging people to take action ("do something with the days"), rather than giving up. The last line is quite powerful and reminds us that even though we may not have the language to describe our feelings, the source of our pain lies within.
