Singer Hannah Reid (born on 30 December 1989) and guitarist Dan Rothman met in the dorms of Nottingham University where they began writing music together in 2009. They later added multi-instrumentalist Dot Major to complete the London Grammar line-up.
Their popularity rose with the 2012 release of "Hey Now" which they uploaded to the internet and instantly found an online cult following. Their self-released 2013 debut EP "Metal & Dust" reached the Top 5 of the iTunes chart. The same year they signed to Ministry of Sound and the single "Wasting My Young Years" appeared as the first release on the label. 2013 also saw them play a sold-out show at the Islington Assembly Hall and make an appearance at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton.
"Strong" was the next single extracted from the album "If You Wait", released on September 9th, 2013.
The band's album "Truth Is a Beautiful Thing" was released on 9 June 2017.
On 19 August 2020, London Grammar released “Baby It's You,” their first single since 2017.

High Life
London Grammar Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
that's okay
Take it or leave it
For me
Follow you, I might
The darkest way
Only to leave it
Once again
I know
I,I know
Give up your high life
If that's okay
Take it or leave it
For me
Give up your high life
If that's okay
Take it or leave it
For me
Put out the bright light
To drive away
All that is honest
And all that is brave
And follow you, I might
My darkest day
Only to leave it
Once again
And I
I know
And I
I know
Give up your high life
If that's okay
Take it or leave it
For me
Give up your high life
If that's okay
Take it or leave it
For me
We are, yeah we are, we own everything
We are, yeah we are, we owe nothing
We are, yeah we are, we own everything
We are, yeah we are, we owe nothing
We are, yeah we are, we own everything
We are, yeah we are, we owe nothing
We are, yeah we are, we own everything
We are, yeah we are, we owe nothing
Give up your high life (We are, yeah we are, we own everything)
If that's okay (We are, yeah we are, we owe nothing)
Take it or leave it (We are, yeah we are, we owe nothing)
For me (We are, yeah we are, we owe nothing)
Give up your high life (We are, yeah we are, we owe nothing)
If that's okay (We are, yeah we are, we owe nothing)
Take it or leave it (We are, yeah we are, we owe nothing)
For me (We are, yeah we are, we owe nothing)
The lyrics of "High Life" by London Grammar speak about the choice between living a life of luxury and material wealth or giving it all up for a deeper, more meaningful and fulfilling existence. The lyrics are about this dilemma, being torn between the choices but ultimately choosing the path that leads to enlightenment and truth.
The opening lines "Give up the high life, that's okay. Take it or leave it, for me" suggest that the singer is urging the listener to renounce their material possessions and worldly pleasures to seek a more profound meaning in life. The refrain "give up your high life, if that's okay, take it or leave it, for me" reinforces the idea that one can make this choice and that it is not a decision to be forced.
The lines "We are, yeah we are, we own everything. We are, yeah we are, we owe nothing" suggests that the decision to give up the high life will lead to a state of existential freedom, where one can begin to own one's life instead of being owned and controlled by the trappings of wealth and status.
