Sights
London Grammar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What are you afraid of
I know that you are
Keep it in your sights now
And don't let it go far
What are you afraid of
Making it better
Keep it by your side now
Whatever the weather
Keep it together
Keep it together
What did you do
Wonder where your heart came from
What have you done
My only friend keep on
Wander or leave
Turn into winter lights
Keeping your strength
When it gets dark at night
What are you made of
Water and glass
Keep it in your sights now
It's keeping you up
Keep it together
Keep it together

What did you do, wonder where
Your heart came from
What have you done
My only friend keep on
Wander or leave,
Turn into winter lights
Keeping your strength
When it gets dark at night

Keep on
Keep the straight line
I'm running, running
The straight line

What did you do, wonder where
Your heart came from
What have you done
My only friend keep on
Wander or leave,
Turn into winter lights
Keeping your strength
When it gets dark at night

What you're feeling
It's what I'm feeling too
What you're made of
It's what I'm made of too
What are you afraid of
I know that you are

What are you afraid of
I know that you are

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of London Grammar's song Sights seem to be a contemplation on the idea of fear and the need to keep oneself strong in order to overcome it. The singer is addressing an unknown person and asking them what they are afraid of, emphasizing keen awareness that they are living in fear. The line "Keep it in your sights now and don't let it go far" suggests that the things one is afraid of should be faced and tackled head-on, rather than avoided or ignored. The phrase "Whatever the weather, keep it together" reinforces this idea of resilience and determination in overcoming one's fears.

The singer then seems to rhetorically ask what the person in question has done in the past and where their heart came from. This suggests the need for inner reflection and self-awareness. The lyric "Wander or leave, turn into winter lights" can be interpreted as an encouragement to keep searching for the answers within oneself, even during the darkest times. Finally, the repetition of "Keep it together" serves as a powerful reminder to stay strong and not let fear take control.

Overall, the song's lyrics are emotionally charged with an undercurrent of hope, empowerment, and resilience. It encourages people to overcome their fears and face life's challenges with strength and determination.
