Strong
London Grammar - Lyrics

Excuse me for a while
While I'm wide-eyed
And I'm so down caught in the middle
I've excused you for a while
While I'm wide-eyed
And I'm so down caught in the middle

And a lion, a lion, roars would you not listen?
If a child, a child cries would you not forgive them?

Yeah, I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong
I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong

Excuse me for a while,
Turn a blind eye
With a stare caught right in the middle
Have you wondered for a while
I have a feeling deep down?
You're caught in the middle

If a lion, a lion roars would you not listen?
If a child, a child cries would you not forgive them?

Yeah, I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong
I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong

Excuse me for a while
While I'm wide-eyed
And I'm so down caught in the middle
Have you wondered for a while
I have a feeling deep down?
You're caught in the middle

Yeah, I might seem so strong
Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong
I might seem so strong

Yeah, I might speak so long
I've never been so wrong

Overall Meaning

The song "Strong" by London Grammar/High Contrast is a powerful ballad that explores the emotions of feeling lost and vulnerable. The lyrics portray the singer as someone who has been trying to be resilient and strong for too long, but is finally breaking down. The singer asks if people would ignore the pain of a lion or a crying child, suggesting that their own struggles are just as important and valid. Throughout the song, the repetition of "caught in the middle" emphasizes the frustration and hopelessness felt by the singer.

The line "Excuse me for a while/Turn a blind eye/With a stare caught right in the middle" illustrates how the singer is trying to hide their pain and struggles from others, but they still feel trapped and unable to escape their emotions. The line "I might seem so strong/Yeah, I might speak so long/I've never been so wrong" portrays the singer's realization that they aren't as strong as they thought they were and that pretending to be invincible isn't sustainable.

Overall, the song "Strong" is a moving and relatable depiction of the struggles that come with feeling lost and vulnerable. The powerful vocals and emotive lyrics capture the intense emotions of the singer and draw the listener into their world of pain and frustration.

A BIG congratulations to our very own London Grammar on winning the Ivor Novello award for 'Best Song Musically and Lyrically' for 'Strong'.

If we could double like this video we would!

@michaelburke7742

Do you know if this is a cover song? It sounds very similar.

@thebigmoosy9706

This just proves how utterly dead this industry is. Next year Nicky Minaj is going to win an award for "most creative music video featuring a jizzing coconut".

@Stevek552

@@thebigmoosy9706 Take your fuckwit troll opinion where it`s of value.. Don`t know?..

Coming back to this song always helps me to bring to the surface the emotions I have been hiding or keeping away from others. I’m strong for others to only be away to break into a million pieces when I’m alone. When I’m done, I do my best to pick up all the pieces and move forward. Thank you LG for helping me process all the pain.

@blackcat3785

maybe think about this...open up to all the people you have been strong for,they may surprise you...after all we are only human.being strong is also telling people you need help,something i learned from my best friend before he past,lg was his favourite band he loved this song,and i always come back to this...

Appreciate your candid sharing. Know there are millions who do the same. What a difference we could all make to openly acknowledge the pain we all feel at times-and support each other through it. I vow to. Be well.
