Doghouse
Lonestar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I never should have turned my head
To see some other lovely thing
Walking pretty down the street
'Cause just about that time my girl she realized
Caught my eyes and busted me
Now I'm back out in this bed I made face down in the dirt
Beggin' to get my baby back, you think I would have learned
[Chorus]
It's just another day in the dog house
I better change my ways and my wandering eyes
It's just another day in the doghouse
Thinking this is probably where this dog is gonna die

I stumbled in at 3am
After poker night with my friends
She was waiting up and angry
I said honey I lost track of time, not to mention every dime
That I had on me
Now I'm back out in the yard and sad and all alone
If you find forgiveness in your heart just throw this boy a bone

[Chorus]

Now I'm back out in this bed I made face down in the dirt
Beggin' to get my baby back, you think I would have learned

Overall Meaning

The song "Doghouse" by Lonestar is a tale of a man who constantly cheats on his girlfriend or wife but always begs for forgiveness when he gets caught. The lyrics speak of his realization that his wandering eyes and cheating ways have once again landed him in the proverbial doghouse. The singer laments that he should have never turned his head to look at another woman walking by when he was already in a committed relationship. The moment he caught sight of the other woman, his girlfriend noticed and became angry, resulting in him being back in the doghouse.

In the second verse, the singer stumbles in late at night after a game of poker with his friends, only to find his girlfriend already waiting for him, angry due to his repeated behavior. He attempts to explain himself by saying that he lost track of time and money, but this does not appease her anger. The man then finds himself alone and sad, wishing for his girlfriend to forgive him once again so that he can get out of the doghouse.

The chorus of the song talks about how the man must change his ways and stop his wandering eyes if he wants to get out of the doghouse. He realizes that he might never make it out of this situation, and his infidelity will eventually lead him to his downfall. Overall, the song is a cautionary tale about the consequences of cheating and how it can lead to a lifetime of regret and loneliness.
