Front Porch
Lonestar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh yeah
Yeah oh yeah

The only ground I ever owned was sticking to my shoes
Now I look at my front porch and this panoramic view
I can sit and watch the fields fill up
With rays of glowing sun
Or watch the moon lay on the fences
Like that's where it was hung
My blessings are in front of me
It's not about the land
I'll never beat the view
From my front porch looking in

There's a carrot top who can barely walk
With a sippy cup of milk
A little blue eyed blonde with shoes on wrong
'Cause she likes to dress herself
And the most beautiful girl holding both of them
And the view I love the most
Is my front porch looking in, yeah

I've traveled here and everywhere
Following my job
I've seen the paintings from the air
Brushed by the hand of God
The mountains and the canyons reach from sea to shining sea
But I can't wait to get back home
To the one he made for me
It's anywhere I'll ever go and everywhere I've been
Nothing takes my breath away
Like my front porch looking in

There's a carrot top who can barely walk
With a sippy cup of milk
A little blue eyed blonde with shoes on wrong
'Cause she likes to dress herself
And the most beautiful girl holding both of them
Yeah the view I love the most
Is my front porch looking in

I see what beautiful is about
When I'm looking in
Not when I'm looking out

There's a carrot top who can barely walk
With a sippy cup of milk
A little blue eyed blonde with shoes on wrong
'Cause she likes to dress herself
And the most beautiful girl holding both of them
Yeah the view I love the most

Oh, the view I love the most
Is my front porch looking in
Yeah
Oh, there's a carrot top who can barely walk
(From my front porch looking in)
A little blue eyed blonde with shoes on wrong, yeah
And the most beautiful girl
(Beautiful girl
From my front porch looking in)

Holding both of them
Oh, yeah

Overall Meaning

The song "My Front Porch Looking In" by Lonestar dwells upon finding happiness in the simple things of life. The singer expresses his gratitude for his home, where he can enjoy the beauty of nature, the love of his family, and the blessings of God. The opening lines of the song imply that the singer had a humble beginning and did not possess much property. However, he is content with what he has now and cherishes the picturesque view of his front porch.

The first verse of the song captures the beauty of nature with a poetic flair. The singer can see the changing colors of the fields at dawn or dusk, and the serene beauty of the moon shining on the fences. He acknowledges that his fortune is not about owning the land but the breathtaking view he can watch from his front porch. The singer finds his true treasures, the love of his family, and the peaceful moments he can spend on his front porch.

In the second verse, the singer reflects on traveling to different places for his job and seeing nature's incredible landscapes. He has seen mountains, canyons, and landscapes painted by God's brush. Despite all this, the singer finds that nothing can compare to the happiness he gets when he comes back home to his front porch, which is the one God made for him.

The song is, therefore, an ode to finding joy and peace in the simple things that life has to offer. The singer realizes that he's lucky to have a caring family and a breathtaking view from his front porch, which fills him with happiness and contentment.

I can listen to this song over and over. I'm retired as is my wife and the kids are gone so it's pretty quiet in the house. But I remember back when it was noisy. That was a good thing. It all goes fast when you look back. I'm thankful for grandkids.

I'm 29 now but I always come back to this song when I'm feeling nostalgic because my family is so separated and my father passed.
But I grew up thinking this song was our family song because I was the carrot top ginger baby and my sister was a 6 years older blue eyed blonde.
