Don'T Ask Why
Long Since Forgotten Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In conclusion
I'd like to say it's getting better.
And in conclusion I'd like to say it's only fair.
It's not about anything in particular because you don't care.

I'd like to tell you something that would matter
And take away the things that make you cry.
Now words that could be said you'll never hear them, but don't ask why.
I thought that I heard a voice that sounded like you.

I passed a street that takes me far away.
A given chance becomes a chance not taken because I don't care.
I'd like you to say something that would matter

And to see the person that you've learned to hide.
Now words that could be said I'll never hear them.

Overall Meaning

The song "Don't Ask Why" by Long Since Forgotten talks about a relationship that has soured over time. The singer reflects on how they wish they could make things better and take away the pain that their partner feels. However, they realize that their partner has stopped caring, and nothing they say or do will make a difference. The line "it's not about anything in particular because you don't care" highlights the apathy that has crept in and how the relationship has lost its spark.

The singer also talks about the missed opportunities they had to make things right. They passed a street that could have taken them away from all their problems, but they didn't take the chance, reinforcing the feeling of stagnancy and lack of action in the relationship. The line "I thought that I heard a voice that sounded like you" also highlights the sense of missed connections and how the relationship has drifted apart.

The chorus, with the repetition of the phrase "now words that could be said, I'll never hear them, don't ask why," reveals the emotional distance between the couple. The singer suggests that asking why is futile because there may never be a clear answer. It is a poignant reminder that sometimes, relationships deteriorate beyond repair, and no amount of apologies, explanations, or efforts can fix it.

"The Forgotten" lyrics

Where in the world’s the forgotten?
They’re lost inside your memory
You’re dragging on, your heart’s been broken
As we all go down in history

Where in the world did the time go?
It’s where your spirit seems to roam
Like losing faith to our abandon
Or an empty hallway from a broken home

Well don’t look away from the arms of a bad dream
Don’t look away, sometimes you’re better lost than to be seen

I don’t feel strange, it’s more like haunted
Another moment trapped in time
I can’t quite put my finger on it
But it’s like a child that was left behind

So where in the world’s the forgotten?
Like soldiers from a long lost war
We share the scars from our abandon
And what we remember becomes folklore

Well, don’t look away from the arms of a bad dream
Don’t look away, sometimes you’re better lost than to be seen
Don’t look away from the arms of a moment
Don’t look away from the arms of tomorrow
Don’t look away from the arms of a moment
Don’t look away from the arms of love

Well, don’t look away from the arms of a bad dream
Don’t look away, sometimes you’re better lost than to be seen
Don’t look away from the arms of a moment
Don’t look away from the arms of tomorrow
Don’t look away from the arms of a moment
Don’t look away from the arms of love

We're in the worlds of forgotten
And lost inside your memory
You're dragging on, your heart's been broken
Cause we all go down in history

Where in the world did the time go?
It's where your spirit seems to roam
Like losing faith to our abandon
Or an empty hallway from a broken home

Don't look away
From the arms of a bad dream
Don't look away
Sometimes you're better lost than to be seen

I don't feel strange, it's more like haunted
Another moment trapped in time
I can't quite put my finger on it
But it's like a child that was left behind

So we're in the worlds of forgotten
Like soldiers from a long lost war
We share the scars from our abandon
And what we remember becomes folklore

Well don't look away
From the arms of a bad dream
Don't look away
Sometimes you're better lost than to be seen

Don't look away
From the arms of a moment
Don't look away
From the arms of tomorrow

Don't look away
From the arms of a moment
Don't look away
From the arms of love

Don't look away
From the arms of a bad dream
Don't look away
Sometimes you're better lost than to be seen

Don't look away
From the arms of a moment
Don't look away
From the arms of tomorrow

Don't look away
From the arms of a moment
Don't look away
From the arms of love

I've loved you guys ever since 1994. You've been there for me through all of the times I've felt I couldn't be there for myself. I have three tattoos on my right arm of your album art. Kerplunk, American Idiot and the triple album. I plan to eventually finish the whole sleeve of your album art. I saw you live in London, Ontario in March of 2017 for the first time. I just want some sort of recognition that I my life means something after all. I'm not usually star struck or any of that shit, but you guys and your music stopped me from committing suicide years ago. It would mean the world to me to get some sort of response, and so little time out of your day. please?
