Longwave followed up on the success of The Strangest Things by entering the studio in 2004 with famed producer John Leckie, whose work with Radiohead and Pink Floyd endeared him to the critical taste of the band, and There’s a Fire was released in 2005.
With a return to the studio planned for late 2007, Longwave found itself on the list of indispensable listening for the first part of this millennium. Expect them to stay there. Longwave's latest album, Secrets are Sinister, was released in November 2008 on Original Signal Recordings.

back in my mind
taking my time
i don't see you every day
coming around
crushing me down
open everything escape
you can run but i know what you are
something to get me through
slipping into veiw oh
you can run but i know what you are
fly knowing my face
floating in space
exploding into you tonight
what fits in my head
choking my bed
give me hands to learn to fly
you can take but i know it's a lie
and when you're down they're never on you side
i can't look at my face
i want to leave this place oh
and you can take but i know it's a lie
and you can run but i know what you are
what you are
i know what you are
escape
The lyrics to Longwave's song "Escape" speak to the desire to free oneself from a situation, a person or a feeling. The opening lines "Escape, back in my mind, taking my time, I don't see you every day" suggest that the singer is trying to distance themselves from someone or something that weighs them down. The following lines "coming around, crushing me down, open everything, escape" convey a sense of urgency and the need for a way out, for a release from the negative energy.
The chorus "you can run but I know what you are, you can take but I know what's inside" could be interpreted as a warning to the person or situation the singer is trying to escape from. The repetition of this warning in the second verse "you can take but I know it's a lie, and when you're down they're never on your side, I can't look at my face, I want to leave this place" emphasizes the sense of betrayal the singer is feeling and their desire to distance themselves from it.
The final lines of the song "and you can take but I know it's a lie, and you can run but I know what you are, what you are, I know what you are, escape" reiterate the sense of determination and the need for freedom that permeates the entire song.
